The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) BIOL-2401-012 Anatomy and Physiology I
Anatomy and Physiology I is the first part of a two course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including cells, tissues and organs of the following systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and special senses. Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

Lecture Book: Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology Eleventh Edition. By Martini, Nath and Bartholomew. This book is also used in Biol 2402, A&P 2.

Policy on Makeup: There is NO make-up work. You have the syllabus and schedule. IF you have a specific issue that prevents you from coming to class or taking an exam you MUST tell me ahead of time. If appropriate, we will organize a pathway to success.
Because you have a 48-72 hour window of time to take major exams, you will not be allowed to take exams early. Nor is not possible to open an activity early for one student. Make use of your textbook and read ahead if you want to get ahead in the class.
Attendance Policy: I will take daily attendance in a variety of ways and times. You cannot participate and engage in your learning if you are not here. You will maximize your learning and points by being present and active in your education.
Classroom behavior should not interfere with the instructor’s ability to conduct the class or the ability of other students to learn from the instructional program. Unacceptable or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Students engaging in unacceptable behavior may be instructed to leave the classroom. Inappropriate behavior may result in disciplinary action. Every effort will be made to maintain a proper learning atmosphere. Any student that violates the student code of conduct will be dealt with according to the procedures within the student handbook.
Use of Electronics: Please keep all cell phones and electronic devices turned off during the class period. Surfing the web, social networking, and texting during class in not appropriate or respectful classroom behavior. You may be asked to leave. Laptops for notetaking are acceptable, as long as they are not disruptive.
Food in the Traditional Classroom and Lab: you may bring food and drink into both lecture and lab; however, if you spill something, please clean up after yourself. No food or drink will be allowed in the lab during dissections.
Lecture Exams (50%): Lecture assessments include 2 lecture exams and 2 practical exams each worth 100 points. The final comprehensive examination is worth 150 points. It is 150 questions including labeling. The final is done IN class on paper and labeling is fill-in-the-blank with correct spelling. The final cannot be dropped.
Daily Quizzes & Laboratory (40%): (14) Daily Quizzes will allow you to study the last lecture and take an immediate quiz at the next class. Each is worth 25 points. This will tell you how you are doing—are really understanding? The daily quizzes will be done in the Science Testing Center same day AFTER class. You will have that day only to take the exam. A specific number of these will be dropped (lowest scores). The other part of this percent is the final comprehensive practical covering chapters 1-16. It is 100 questions and worth 100 points. It CANNOT be dropped.
Class Participation (10%): There will be spelling challenges, muscle challenge and similar during lecture and/or lab throughout the course of the term. There is a potential of 110 points making this section worth 10% of the final grade. If you are not in class for these—there is no make up.
EVERYTHING is designed to encourage you to be IN class and to participate well as a method of repetition in learning. It is not just memorizing, it is understanding well enough to move to the next class AND into your careers with critical thinking skills.
ALL examinations and quizzes will have questions pertaining to previous work and chapters. You are NOT allowed to forget!
