Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Supplies

Tools are not required to be brought to class by the student. Necessary tools and equipment are provided for in class use for assigned class and lab projects.

Tools are required for student employment during program and before graduation.Tool Purchase Opportunities with discounts at Sears, Mac, Snap-on and Western Equipment will be given and encouraged.

Cost for these tools and boxes average $1500.00 - $ 2000.00. You are responsible for purchasing these tool before graduation.

Safety Glasses required on the first class day and each time entering and or working on skills development in the lab-shop. Leave and extra pair in your car, just in case...

Amarillo College shirts are required to be worn each day of class.

Long pants and non-slip shoes are required.

 

Student Performance

A continuation of Diesel Engine Testing and Repair 1. Coverage of testing and repairing diesel engines including related systems and  specialized tools.  An in-depth coverage of disassembly, repair, identification, evaluation, and reassembling of diesel engines.

The student will identify engine components and their working relationship to the engine, evaluate engine components by inspection, testing, and / or measurement, and demonstrate disassembly and reassemble and/or starting of the diesel engine.

Utilize ASE test questions in chapter testing and classroom lectures and N.A.T.E.F. competency’s in the class lab and engine lab to prepare students for a through understanding of the subject.

Lecture and discuss Chapters 7-9 and 26. Test is ASE format multiple choice.

Lectures and hands on assignments help prepare students for the A.S.E. Certification tests given twice a year on MED/HVY Diesel Engines T-2 test.

Shop assignments, hands on skills, Working safely and wearing protective safety glasses and or gloves when required. "Gloves provided"

Workbook Assignment  over chapters 7-9 and 26 to be turned in on the day of the test.

Expected Student Behavior

 Safety Glasses  and a  Amarillo College shirt are required to be worn in the shop... and are required for the class. Failure to wear safety glasses while in the lab-shop area will result in being asked to leave the class and student will receive an F for the final grade. This is Amarillo College policy and is required for employment in this field of study.

Maturity, honesty and respect are required and given.

Teamwork and cleaning your work area each day before leaving is part of shop participation grade.

Phones are to be off during class.

Shoplifting, on field trips will be not tolerated and will result in Police involvement and Amarillo College expulsion.

Students must come to class wearing the appropriate AC uniform shirts.

Students will be respectful of other classes being conducted in the building, respectful of their peers, and of the instructor.

Students are expected to dress appropriately (shirts tucked in, no profanity on clothing, no holes in clothing) and clothing must appear to be laundered regularly.

End Of Course Outcomes.... Overhaul larger and more complicated Diesel engines with the successful starting, running and testing.

Grading Criteria

Class will be separated into groups based on size and will be assigned to different specific engine projects.

50%- Average of your test grades includes workbook assignments to be turned in on day of Final Exam.

50% - Total grade for hands on completion of shop projects working as a group and Class Attendance.

Daily Attendance is required to pass.... Not just test grades.

A = 90 to 100 B = 80 to 89 C = 70 to 79 D = 60 to 69 F = Below 60

Attendance

 Class attendance is mandatory and will affect final grade. Learning the Tricks of the Trade will only come from attending lectures and hands on shop asignments. Missing 3 or more class days will result in repeating the course and a failing grade for the class.

                            Attendance is mandatory to pass the class regardless of final exam grade...

Missing the final exam will result in the letter grade F being entered as the final grade.

Friday  make-up dates will be scheduled as needed if class cancelations occur.

Calendar

Classes are approximately 3- 1/2 weeks long and meet from 8:00 am To approximately 2:00 pm depending on breaks taken. Per Amarillo College policy M,T, W,TH.

                                                   

                                                                 

 Students are highly advised to have a afternoon job as a Diesel technician helper at a local dealership or repair facility.

                         D.E.M.R. 2412-001 Is taught from...10-03-19 through 11-04-19

Module 1  Discuss chapter 7 and 8. Workbook assignment Chapters 7 and 8. Assemble Diesel engine projects and fill out worksheets as assembly progresses in the shop. Engines are assigned for projects.

(1)  Lecture over chapter 7. Discuss syllabus and class objectives, assign running engine projects.

(2)  Continue lecture on chapter 7, shop work on engine projects.

(3) Start lecture over chapter 8, tricks of the trade, shop projects.

(4) Chapter 8 discussion, answer questions, shop assignments.

Module 2  Continue discussing chapter 8 and start chapter 9 discussion. Workbook assignment chapter 9.Work on Diesel engine shop projects. Administer Pop test over chapters 8 and 9 to let me see what areas of improvements  are needed and to re-enforce important technology's covered. Discuss pop test and answers in detail afterwards.

(1)  Finish chapter 8, engine shop projects.

(2)  Lecture over chapter 9,  discuss pre-final pop test over chapter 8-9 to reinforce skills.

(3)  Finish chapter 9, and review chapter 8 and 9.

(4) Pop test over chapter 8 and 9. Discuss Pop test and Shop projects.

Module 3  Discuss chapter 26   Workbook assignment  chapter 28.

(1)  Start chapter 26, shop projects.

(2)  Discuss chapter 26. engine shop projects.

(3)  Finish chapter 26, start completion of shop work.

(4) Review for final exam.. October 30th, 2019

Module 4  Finish Diesel engine projects. Review material, discuss tricks of the trade. Answer questions.

(1)    Final Exam.. shop work.. October, 31st, 2019

(2)    Clean-up and wrap up projects. Last class day.

          Final Exam test is on Thursday, October 31st at 8:00 am over Chapters 7, 8 ,9, and 26...

                                           Last class day is Monday, November 04 2019

                              Missing the final Exam test will automatically result in a grade of F
