The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. Pens, paper, pencils. Other supply needs will be discussed in class. You are welcome to bring your tools for the internet to class such as laptop, ipad, smart phone. We will use these in collaborative work. The campus is wifi enabled.
Course Description: Application of management procedures for early care and education programs. Includes planning, operating, supervising, and evaluating programs. Topics cover philosophy, types of programs, policies, fiscal management, regulations, staffing, evaluation, and communication.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Analyze the planning functions; evaluate the operational functions; and interpret the supervisory functions of an administrator. Summarize the evaluation of functions in an early care and education program; analyze methods of effective communication; and utilize skills in speaking, writing, computation, and computer applications.

The assignments are:
1. Interview a Director (10%): Interview a child care administrator then reflect on their examples of management and leadership.
2. Mission Statement (10%) Write a mission statement encompassing the important elements of high quality practices in programs serving young children and their families.
3. Code of Ethics (10%): reflect on the purpose and role of ethics in a child care program.
4. Pre-Service Orientation Analysis (10%): explain what pre-service orientation is, what it includes, and how/why this is beneficial and required by state licensing.
5. Using an Observation Tool (10%): practice using an observation tool to observe a teacher in the classroom setting then reflect on that observation by setting goals based on the results.
6. Compare/Contrast Evaluations (10%): Write a summary on the pros/cons of 2 different evaluations for staff.
7. Final Project: Administrator's Survival Guide (40%): Compose a survival guide for a new director on what they need to know to write a handbook with mission and philosophy statements, explain what is important in supervising employees and the process of observing, giving useful feedback, and evaluating, and how to be a good leader that others want to follow. (follow rubric in Blackboard)
All assignments will be submitted in Blackboard.
The student will meet at scheduled times for lecture. Student must be at every face to face class. Hybrid classes will cover a great deal of information in the classroom settings.
Be sure to register for both CDEC 2326 and CDEC 2265 in the same semester. These two classes go together.
