Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Corequisite: RNSG 1309 and RNSG 1301

Course Description

Study of the concepts and principles necessary to perform basic nursing skills for the adult patient; and demonstrate competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Content includes knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

Civility Statement

Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning.  In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor; students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students. Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request for the offending student to leave class.

Medical Insurance Coverage

The Affordable Act requires that all U. S. citizens and legal residents have medical insurance coverage. If accidental injury occurs, students are required to file a claim with their personal insurance company. The Hartford insurance policy, currently in place at Amarillo College, is an accident policy that provides coverage over and above any other valid and collectible insurance held by the student. 

 

Grading Criteria

 

Grade Scale:

The following criteria will be used to determine your grade:

A-90

B-80-89

C-75-79

D-60-74

F- 59 and below.

There will be no rounding of grades. Example: a 79.9 will be a “C” and not a “B”.

Grading Criteria: The course grade for RNSG 1105 Nursing Skills will consist of the following:

  1. 8 Skills:  70%
  2. Evidenced-based practice discussions and pre-lab quizzs:  5%
  3. Final Exam:  25%

*A score of “0” will be given for any course assignments left incomplete and will result in clinical failure.

  Regular attendance is required. Less than 90% attendance may result in failure of the course.

Additional Information

 Course Requirements

  1. Meet all requirements for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
  2. Satisfactory completion of, or concurrent enrollment in courses from approved list.
  3. Concurrent enrollment in RNSG 1309 Introduction to Nursing is required.  Both courses (RNSG 1309 and RNSG 1105) must be taken together. If one has to be repeated, both must be repeated.
  4. Satisfactory grade of 75% or above combined course grade of pre-lab exams, group discussions nursing competencies, and final exam. A score of “0” will be given for any course assignments left incomplete and will result in clinical failure.
  5. Classroom attendance of 90%.
