Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisites

Course Description

Science course designed for non-science majors with focus on elementary education science instruction methods and content. Primary emphasis will be fundamental concepts of physics, such as force and motion, sound, waves, momentum and heat. May also include integration with chemistry, geology and astronomy.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to:

  1. be respectful to others
  2. attend class
  3. participate in discussions
  4. complete assignments
  5. study for tests

Cell phones may not be used as calculators during tests. If you have a calculator please bring it on test days as there are a limited number of calculators available.

Students are expected to work toward accomplishing their academic goals honestly without cheating or plagiarizing. Scholastic dishonesty can have serious consequences. Please refer to Amarillo College's policies on Scholastic Dishonesty for more information on what scholastic dishonesty is and the consequences it can bring.

Grading Criteria

Grades will be based on percentage of points earned as follows:

A 89.5 to 100
B 79.5 to 89.49
C 69.5 to 79.49
D 59.5 to 69.49
F below 59.49

Grades will be determined using the following percentages:

  • TESTS -- 30%
  • LABS -- 25%
  • HOMEWORK -- 20%
  • FINAL EXAM -- 25%

 

Attendance

Lecture attendance will be taken but will not count towards the grade. Attending class is the single most important thing a student can do to earn passing marks in any course so good attendance is expected.

Lab attendance is required. There will be no makeup labs. One low lab grade will be dropped.

Calendar

The course reading schedule will be posted on Blackboard and announced in class as well. Assigned reading is expected to be completed PRIOR to class the day the reading is due.
