The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) BIOL-2401-006 Anatomy and Physiology I
Anatomy and Physiology I is the first part of a two course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including cells, tissues and organs of the following systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and special senses. Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology Eleventh Edition. By Martini, Nath and Bartholomew. This book is also used in Biol 2402, A&P 2.
I do NOT use the lab book or on-line Mastering Anatomy--no need to purchase.
At home laboratory work will require color pens/pencils/crayons--your choice. Also one whole chicken ($5) for dissecting for Chapter 4, tissue. Ability to take pictures of lab findings. We will be doing some interesting skeleton and muscle work.

Online, remote classroom behavior should not interfere with the instructor’s ability to conduct the class or the ability of other students to learn from the instructional program. Unacceptable or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Students engaging in unacceptable behavior may be instructed to leave the remote classroom. Inappropriate behavior may result in disciplinary action. Every effort will be made to maintain a proper learning atmosphere. Any student that violates the student code of conduct will be dealt with according to the procedures within the student handbook.
Use of Electronics: Please keep all cell phones and electronic devices turned off during the class period. Surfing the web, social networking, and texting during class in not appropriate or respectful classroom behavior. In the remote classroom, please tuned in—turning on and walking away is not a good way to learn. Stay engaged, ask questions, type answers etc.
Course Requirements and Evaluation
Lecture/Laboratory Exams (50%): At the end of week three there will be a MIDTERM and a FINAL at the end of the 6 weeks. These will be comprehensive. Total 200 points
Quizzes/Projects (35%): Summer is a very FAST assessment time. There will be a chapter quiz twice a week—that will be about (12) 30 question quizzes. This will include 3-4 practical quizzes as well. That is about 500 points.
Participation (15%): There will be participation spelling, answer periods, homework will be done during class in the remote classroom. Approximately 100 points.
Points in assessments are a tool to tell HOW you are understanding the material. There will be adjustments based on the class. The key is to do the best you can to LEARN for use of the material in your future. Patients never ask what you made on a test. They expect you to know your business. It starts here!! |

Policy on Makeup Exams: If you experience computer problems or miss an exam, you will not be able to make up or retake the exam. There is the potential to drop low grade scores. However, the midterm and final cannot be dropped. A missed lab practical or final exam will result in a zero. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you experience computer problems, please contact ME!! Text or email.
Attendance Policy: I will take daily attendance in a variety of ways and times. You cannot participate and engage in your learning if you are not here. You will maximize your learning and points by being present and active in your education.
