Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) BIOL-2402-003 Anatomy and Physiology II

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: BIOL 2401

Course Description

Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance) and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

Textbooks

1. Lecture Book: Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology Eleventh Edition. By Martini, Nath and Bartholomew.

2. Netter's Anatomy Coloring Book 2nd Edition by John T. Hansen - Ebook PDF Version.  The Ebook PDF is $19—you get it on the computer and can print the pages as often as you like. The paperback is affordable too. An anatomy coloring book is VERY handy to see and color the anatomy yourself and read in that book the names and functions.

Supplies

Laboratory work will consist of home projects that will include the coloring book, building a lung, pH effects on medications, and other activities. You will be using a camera or your phone to document lab work. The list of things needed will be available on the 1st day of class.

Whether you are taking the course for a medical career or to be a teacher or just because you need a science course—this WILL help you in that future. Expected Student Behavior

Online, remote classroom behavior should not interfere with the instructor’s ability to conduct the class or the ability of other students to learn from the instructional program. Unacceptable or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.  Students engaging in unacceptable behavior may be instructed to leave the remote classroom.  Inappropriate behavior may result in disciplinary action. Every effort will be made to maintain a proper learning atmosphere. Any student that violates the student code of conduct will be dealt with according to the procedures within the student handbook.

 

Grading Criteria

Points in assessments are a tool to tell HOW you are understanding the material. There will be adjustments based on the class. The key is to do the best you can to LEARN for use of the material in your future. Patients never ask what you made on a test. They expect you to know your business. It starts here!!

Lecture/Laboratory Exams (50%):  At the end of week three there will be a MIDTERM and a FINAL at the end of the 6 weeks. These will be comprehensive. Total 200 points. There will be a major exam every weekend worth 80-100 points. At the end of term, one major exam will be dropped from calculations (lowest score).  Total point approximately 500.

Quizzes/Projects (35%): Summer is a very FAST assessment time. There will be a chapter quiz once a week—that will be about 20-30 question quizzes. This is approximately 150 points

 

Participation (15%): There will be participation spelling, answer periods, homework will be done during class in the remote classroom. Approximately 100 points.

Attendance

 I will take daily attendance in a variety of ways and times. You cannot participate and engage in your learning if you are not here. You will maximize your learning and points by being present and active in your education. I know it is hard to work in a remote classroom—it is up to you to engage, ask questions, and make learning a part of everyday in and out of class.
