The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

In-depth study and applications of polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations using matrices. Additional topics such as sequences, series, probability and conics may be included.

No text book!!
MML access is required from Day 1. All homework assignments, 3 exams including the final exam, all Exam Reviews must be taken on My Math Lab.
COVID 19 - UPDATE: For safety purpose to maintain social distancing, students will be divided into two groups to participate classes physically and virtually alternatively, class meets twice per week.
So, for regular virtual class participation, access to a working computer with reliable internet and to work on My Math Lab is REQUIRED.
Basics: Notebooks (8.5" x 11") or Loose Leaf Papers for taking the class notes.
Pencils or mechanical-pencils, erasers, a highlighter in your favorite color.
Graphing Calculator: TI-84 Plus CE/TI-84 Plus/similar. TI -83 doesn't work. You are required to use calculator to observe the class lessons. As half of this course is from home, you may install "calculate84" on your smartphone from app (either android or ios). In classroom, you will be provided TI-84 Plus CE calculator if you need.
Graph papers. You may get free at http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/lite/.
COVID 19 - UPDATE:: Access to a working computer with internet access and a printer is required. There are student computers located in the WARE student building's underground student's center for student use. This enables you to access the course materials if in case you don't have internet or printer at home.

COVID-19 Update: Due to maintain “State Required Social Distancing”, not all students are permitted to participate in class physically for every class. Students will be divided into two groups – each will participate classes physically and virtually at every alternative class-day per week.
All classes will be telecasted. So, one group of students will be in class physically, and rest will participate virtually. This routine will be switched per class per week.

Student Responsibilities:
** My Math Lab registration within the first day of class is ESSENTIAL !!
** Regular Class Participation -- physically one night and virtually other night is required.
** As classes are of lengthy timeframe, every night multiple exercises -- so, UTMOST energetic patience is asked in advance!
** Math 1414 is the Algebra portion of pre-calculus and of 4 credit hours. Due to 8-weeks Course, time is extremely compact whereas the lesson content is intense. Students are responsible to take the regular study-load accordingly.
** Minimum 6 hours of focused study per class, practice and regular Homework on MML is MUST !!
** Major Exams on most weekends, minimum 5 hours of study time is MUST !!
** Active response and spontaneous work from Day 1 to last is REQUIRED.
** Students are responsible to keep track with the ongoing class lessons and assignments both in class and on MML with due dates. NO LATE SUBMISSION is possible! No chance as no time !!
** Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or Student Rights & Responsibilities will be subject to disciplinary action.
Food/Drink: You are welcome to have food or drink in both environment of classroom.
Phones/Pagers: You are expected to be responsible and manner-ful of using cell phone or similar devices while participating the classes.
Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism: Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College. This is required and assumed that you fully understand and agree with the virtual contract by the statement: "I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat on any test I will receive an automatic "F" in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes the providing your MML usernames and password to someone else and copying assignments and exam taken at home. Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students to cheat on a test."
ADDITIONAL CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
1. BE ON TIME AND REGULAR.
2. BE PREPARED.
3. NO DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR will be tolerated.
4. SUBSTITUTE BEHAVIOR. If a substitute should come in to teach the class, you are expected to be on your best behavior and treat him/her with the highest respect. I would not send anyone in to teach who is not fully capable of doing so.

I. Major Exams: Four major exams are required to take within the assigned time. 1st and 4th exams are on MML, 2nd and 3rd are paper-exams. NO excuse, no retake, no makeup. Lowest scored one of them will be replaced by the Final Exam score (if higher) at the end of the semester.
(a) Exam 1 (MML) on: Exercises R.2, R.4, R.5, R.7, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
(b) Exam 2 (Assignment) on: Exercises 1.4, 1.5, 1.7, 2.3, 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5
(c) Exam 3 (Assignment) on: Exercises 4.3, 4.4, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5
(d) Exam 4 (MML) on: Exercises 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.8 (optional)
***** Unfortunately if you score below 70% at any of the above major exams, it is required by "AC Learning Policy" that you must take minimum 1 hour of tutoring help as PRE-REQUISITE to take the next exam. If not, then that Exam score will be withheld!! Your instructor will be informed electronically about that.
II. Exam Reviews on My Math Lab must be taken before the related Exams. Minimum 50% score is required to get access to the related Exams, this policy includes the Final.

III. Final Exam (MML, within Wednesday, October 14, noon): Cumulative, on all lessons covered in class. Additional Exercises for the Final Exam R.8, 2.1, 2.4, 7.3, 7.4, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.6.
IV. My Math Lab Homework must be done within the assigned time. Lowest scored two of them will be dropped from average at the end of semester. So, no excuse for undone or incomplete.

VI. Final Exam: Under NO circumstances will the final be given late (i.e. No Make Ups)!
VII. Attendance -- Attendance will be posted at the end of the semester. Each day's attendance weighs a lot as classes are only twice per week. 10 minutes late or early leaving without teacher;s concern, will be counted as 'irregular', two of such 'irregularities' will be counted as 1 day absence.
NO EXTRA CREDIT as we are tightly framed with very limited time!!

Deadline for withdrawing from any class at AC for Fall I 2020 is October 06, Tuesday. If you stop attending class and your average drops below 60, due to missed assignments and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.
