Additional Information

Last Day to Withdraw: 24 Nov 2020

COVID-19 Protocols:

  1. Tech-supported learning on the first day of F2F classes (traditional and hybrid): Faculty teaching F2F sections in FA1 will meet virtually with their classes on the first day of class (M or T, depending on the start date). (Exceptions include all West and East Campus classes.) The reason for meeting virtually on the first day of classes is to communicate all COVID-19 policies students must abide by, as well as to split students up into separate groups for alternating F2F and simulcasted days of instruction. Classes will meet F2F thereafter while being simulcasted.
  2. Amarillo College HealthHub application in partnership with Duet Health: All AC employees and students will use this application, each day before coming to campus, to confirm that they have not tested positive and are not experiencing COVID-like symptoms. A more detailed communication about the use of this app is forthcoming from Communications & Marketing.
  3. Masks (or face shields) are required per the board-approved policy. Faculty and students must abide by this policy.
  4. Mask Escalation Protocol
    • Guidelines for enforcing mask policy:
      1. Faculty MUST enforce the mask policy or be subject to disciplinary action. All AC employees must abide by the policy and enforce it, or be subject to disciplinary action.
      2. Faculty will have to complete required ThinkZoom training on Copsync911 and de-escalation practices before fall start (TBA).
  5. COVID-19 Attendance Policy

Rationale: We need a uniform and mandatory attendance tracking policy to facilitate contact tracing. We need to know precisely who was in class on a specific day in the event that a student (or teacher) tests positive for COVID-19.

Policy: Faculty will track daily attendance for all F2F classes in which they are the instructor of record. Faculty have the discretion to count/not count attendance as part of the grade. This attendance tracking policy is to ensure proper contact tracing. Faculty must track daily attendance in Blackboard. CTL will provide training on how to track daily attendance in Blackboard. Please note that keeping attendance in Blackboard is significantly improved and far easier than it has been in the past.

  6. Protocol for Student/Faculty with Confirmed Positive C19 Test.
    1. Student: If a student is confirmed positive for COVID-19, the student will immediately quarantine and follow CDC Guidelines. The student may resume attending classes in person when he or she is cleared according to CDC guidelines. After investigation and contact tracing, the class will continue in F2F if possible. Faculty will notify students through email, Blackboard, and in class. Any student who is uncomfortable with returning to class may choose to simulcast.
    2. Faculty: If a faculty member is confirmed positive for COVID-19 but is still able to teach, his or her classes will move to a tech-supported learning environment immediately. The classes will resume in a F2F environment when the faculty member is cleared according to CDC Guidelines. If the faculty member is not able to teach, the immediate supervisor will provide a substitute, and the classes will remain F2F. However, if no substitute is available to teach F2F, the immediate supervisor will work with the appropriate dean and the VPAA Office.
