Office Hours

Hi! I am looking forward to working with you this semester.

Please contact me by email (lkenney@actx.edu), through Messages in Blackboard, or via text (806.680.4348) if you would like to schedule a day and time to meet in person or Zoom online to get your questions answered or to receive additional guidance on course concepts. Flexibility in scheduling is available, so do not hesitate to ask for what works for you.

If you want to stop by, I will be in my office at these designated times:
      Mondays: 10:30am - 11:30am
      Thursdays 11:30am - 12:30pm

Know two things:

  1. I am here and ready to assist you and guide you at whatever level works for you. If you are at a level that permits you to work this course mostly independently, go for it. If you need assistance, a lot or a little, please communicate that. Many times what feels like a big thing holding you back is a small obstacle we can work on together to get past in a short period of time.
  2. There are many tasks to complete in the course. Every week, multiple tasks, for the entire 8 weeks. Block off time to get these assignments complete. This is how you will learn and how you will demonstrate competency with this material.

Good luck this semester!!

89.5% and 100% = A
79.5% and less than 89.5% = B
69.5% and less than 79.5% = C
59.5% and less than 69.5% = D
0% and less than 59.5% = F

Student evaluation is based upon the following assignments and weights:

          Quizzes / Introduction Activities:  15%
          Simulation Trainings:  15%
          Chapter Projects:  35%
          Class Project:  10%
Capstone Projects & Integrated Project:  25%

Computer Concepts Quizzes / Google Site Quizzes / Introduction Activities (15% of course grade)

Introduction Activities are Week 1 activities that are administrative in nature and designed to get you oriented to the course and the learning management systems you will be using (Blackboard and MyLabIT).
Google Site Quizzes are based upon Excel videos that were created by your instructor to explain certain concepts within that program. The videos are another way in which to learn the material, especially some of the concepts that are more challenging. These quizzes are fill-in-the-blank.
Computer Concepts Quizzes are based upon provided videos and articles that introduce you to topics such as: computer hardware and software, the internet, networking, security, and the impact of technology on our changing world. After reviewing the material, you will complete a multiple-choice/true-false quiz about what you have learned.
One attempt is permitted for Introduction Activities, Google Site Quizzes, and Computer Concepts Quizzes.

Simulation Trainings (15% of course grade)

Simulation trainings in MyLabIT provide an introduction of the tools available for each type of application software (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
Simulations mimic the software program, so that it appears as if you are working within the software. Tasks to complete are presented. If you already know how to complete the task, do so. If you do not, this trainer offers three ways to learn: read the electronic textbook, watch a short video, or follow along as the practice guide points you to the correct steps.
You should expect to received a 100% on each simulation training, because you can keep trying until you get it right. Just don't give up!
Unlimited attempts are permitted on the simulation trainings. When multiple attempts are taken, the higher grade will be used for grade calculations.

Chapter Projects (35% of course grade)

Chapter projects provide an opportunity to practice the tools you are learning in a more realistic environment--using the actual software.
Chapter projects entail downloading a starting file with a set of instructions. You will modify the file based on the instructions and upload your completed file to MyLabIT for automatic grading.
A report will provide information about any steps you missed or completed incorrrectly.
Two attempts are permitted on ChapterProjects. When two attempts are taken, the higher grade will be used for grade calculations.

Class Project (10% of course grade)

The Class project is an exploration of Artificial Intelligence and its potential impact on the future of work.
Videos and articles are provided to start your exploration.
The Class Project is broken up into 4 parts: 2 discussions posts, 1 essay, and 1 video presentation with outline.
One attempt is permitted on each of the Class Project components.

Capstone Projects (20% of course grade) and Integrated Project (10% of course grade)

Final exam activities include a Capstone Project for Word, a Capstone Project for Excel, a Capstone Project for PowerPoint, and an Integrated Project that includes Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
These projects are similar to major exams, in that it is an opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of what you have learned and accomplished over the semester.
One attempt is permitted on each of these projects.
