Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) An introduction to the automotive industry including automotive history, safety practices, shop equipment and tools, vehicle subsystems, service publications, professional responsibilities and basic automotive maintenance. May be taught manufacturer specific.

WECM End-of-Course Outcomes: Utilize appropriate safety procedures; describe historical development and career information of the automotive industry; demonstrate safe, professional, and responsible work practices; demonstrate the proper use of shop equipment and tools; describe the eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) vehicle subsystems; use service information; and perform basic automotive maintenance.

PREPARING VEHICLE FOR CUSTOMER

  • Ensure vehicle is prepared to return to customer per school/company policy (floor mats, steering wheel cover, etc.).

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to comply with the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct. The Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct will be posted on the bulletin board in the Transportation Career Center and the Academic Classroom Center and will be explained in detail by the Instructor on the first day of class.

Cell phones are to be on silent or vibrate during class unless requested by the Instructor. In order to maintain a safe environment in the shop, cell phones are not to be out in the shop. Being aware of your surroundings is vital to staying safe. 

Students will be respectful of other classes being conducted in the building, respectful of their peers, and of the instructor.

Horseplay or unsafe behaviors will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave and you will be given a zero for the day.

90 - 100 = A

80- 89.9= B

70 - 79.9 = C

60 - 69.9 = D

0 - 59.9 = F

 

Late work will  not be accepted  after due date.

If you have a 90% average and miss zero classes you will be excempt from the final exam 

Attendance

Attendance and Participation grading for class

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will receive a 50 for the day for attendance. If you leave more than 15 minutes early, the same applies. 

Failing to participate in activities will cause you to receive a 50 for the day for participation.

Some information presented may be manufacturer specific. 

You MUST get your Instructor's permission to bring a vehicle into the shop. If you do not, you WILL be asked to leave the shop.

Vehicles are not to remain "overnight". Any work performed MUST be completed by the end of class. Verify you have ALL parts and supplies needed to complete any maintenance or repair. If unsure, ask your instructor prior to work being started.  

All vehicles brought into the shop MUST have a repair order filled out and placed on the windshield. 

Honk your horn prior to entering and leaving the shop. 

Have a window down and keys outside of the vehicle to prevent being locked out.
