Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Grading Criteria

The following criteria will be used to determine your grade:

Passing course grade: 75% or higher

No late assignments will be accepted for this course

Rationale: The National Council Licensure Examination for RNs (NCLEX-RN) has become harder to reflect the need for Nurses who have a high level of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. The increase in patient acuity and nursing responsibilities is placing greater demand on current entry-level Nurses in comparison to their cohorts in the past. The National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) prepares the NCLEX-RN and establishes the minimum passing standard.

Grading Scale for RNSG 1218

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 75-79

F = < 74 (Fail)

Final Course Grades are rounded:

For example

  • 89.51% will be rounded to a letter grade of A
  • 79.51% will be rounded to a letter grade of B
  • 74.51% will be rounded to a letter grade of C
  • >.5 = round up, <.5 = round down

Required graded assignments are NOT rounded:

For example, If your assignment or quiz average is 74.98, then with NO rounding, your assignment or quiz grade is a D.

The course grade will consist of  ATI assignments, an ATI exam, an IV skills check-off, and active learning participation. Weighted as follows:

ATI assignments - 25%

ATI Exam: Dosage Calculation - 15%

Interactive (Learning Skills) Participation - 10%

IV Skills (Initiating an IV Check) off - 15%

IV Skills (Discontinuing an IV) Check off - 15%

ATI Exam: RN Concept-Based Assessment Level 1 - 20%

No late assignments will be accepted for this course.

All tutoring and remediation requirements must be completed in order to take the next Unit Exam or sit for the Comprehensive Final Exam.

ATI Specialty Exam Remediation Requirement:

ATI specialty exams are utilized to establish readiness for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN).

All students will be required to complete the focused review  based on the results of these assessments.

The Focused Review must be completed by the due date prescribed by your instructor. Please see the ATI grading and focused review requirement table below:

That format may include written exam questions, short answer, fill-ins, or essay questions. The instructor must be notified if the student is unable to attend the exam beforehand.
