Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) For more information on Drop and Withdrawal Policies, please visit the Registrar's Office Web site.

On Campus Course
Optional: Trigonometry, 5th Edition
by Mark Dugopolski
(Pearson Education Publishers)
Note: The physical textbook for this course is optional. Daily homework will be completed online using MyMathLab, where an electronic version of the text is accessible.
Calculator: You will need a graphing calculator for this course. The recommended calculator is a Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus. Other forms of Texas Instruments or Casio graphing calculators will be permitted at the instructors discretion. Note that TI-89s, TI-NSpires, and graphing calculator apps are not permitted in the Math Testing Lab.
Internet: You need access to reliable internet service to access course materials and online homework on a daily basis. (If your internet service is interrupted, it is also a good idea to have a back up plan for accessing the internet elsewhere so that you can complete your school work!)
Electronic Devices: You will need a working laptop, computer, tablet, or phone with a functioning camera to complete online homework and access optional remote tutoring. You will also need access to a reliable printer to produce class notes, review worksheets, and other materials. (Computers and printers are available for student use in the Underground in the WARE Building on the Washington Street Campus. Every student has $20 pre-loaded onto their student ID to cover printing costs!)
Helpful Apps: In the event that you elect to participate in virtual tutoring, you may want to download the Zoom app.
MyMathLab: Students must have access to MyMathLab for online homework by purchasing the student access kit from the Amarillo College Bookstore or paying for access directly online.
Learning Objectives: After completing this course, the student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the following topics as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program:
In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .
If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".
Please Note: NO CELL PHONES may be used during an exam in class or in the Math Testing Lab. If your phone is out at any time for any reason during while in the Testing Room, you will receive an automatic "F" for the course.
Grading Policy: Your grade (90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, less than 60 F) will be determined using the following weights:
Category | Percentage of Total Grade |
Online Homework (Drop 2 lowest grades) | 10% |
Milestones (Quizzes -- no drops) | 10% |
Reviews (completion) | 5% |
Major Exams (4 Exams, no drops) | 55% |
Final Exam | 20% |
Online Homework: Daily homework will be completed online using the MyMathLab website. Help buttons will be available for each problem in MyMathLab, and you may rework problems multiple times until you get the correct answer. MyMathLab due dates are posted on the class schedule in Blackboard and also on the MyMathLab website, and no late homework will be accepted. Though this homework will be submitted online, I strongly recommend that you keep an organized log of written work in your notebook to better learn the process of solving problems.
Milestones (Quizzes): Timed quizzes, called Milestones, will be given regularly in class. To achieve mastery of each concept, you need to make a 100 on each milestone before moving on to the next topic. If you make a 100 on your first attempt, you can move on to the next milestone according to schedule. If you do not make a 100 on your first attempt, you can retake the milestone during the next class meeting. You will have 2 attempts to achieve a 100 on each milestone. The final attempt will be recorded as the grade for that milestone. All milestones for each chapter must be completed before taking the chapter exam. To help you prepare, all milestones are posted in Blackboard. Feel free to print these and practice them outside of class.
Review Worksheets: Following each unit of instruction, a review worksheet (with answers) can be printed from Blackboard. The review worksheet functions as a practice exam. Complete this review, and submit it in the Math Testing Lab as a "ticket" to take the exam. You will not be allowed to take the exam until you submit a completed review.
Exams: Four (4) major exams will be given outside of class meeting time in the Math Testing Lab. Exams must be taken during the time frame provided in the weekly schedule, and no late exams will be accepted.
Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be given on Week 6. If the final exam grade is higher than the lowest major exam grade, the final exam will replace that lowest grade and also count for the final exam grade. The final exam must be completed by Wednesday, August 7th by 8PM. The final exam may not be taken late.
Mandatory Tutoring: If your average falls below 75 after a major exam, you will be required to correct the problems you missed on the exam in the Math Academic Success Center, and turn in corrections. Tutoring may be completed on campus or remotely by joining https://zoom.us/j/541139851. Use the Meeting ID: 541 139 851.
Extra Credit: Extra credit will not be given.
Attendance: Daily attendance is required every day in class. Roll will be taken at the beginning of class, so please be on time. If you miss class, you can keep up with the calendar by watching lecture videos available in Blackboard and completing the notes for that day.
Withdrawal: Note that the last day to drop is Thursday, August 1st. Submit this form to me by 12PM (noon) in order to process your drop in time. Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average falls below a 60. No late drops will be given.
