Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Course Description

Integration of professional nursing concepts and exemplars within the professional nursing roles. Synthesizes concepts of clinical judgment, ethical-legal, evidence-based practice, leadership and management, patient-centered care, professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration through exemplars presented in the Health Care Concepts courses. Emphasizes concept of quality improvement and introduces health policy. Incorporates concepts into role development of the professional nurse. This course lends itself to a concept-based approach.

Supplies

Computer/Mobile Device Requirements
This is a hybrid course, combining AC Connect and in-class content
presentations. Reliable internet access is necessary to complete course
requirements. Students are required to have regular, reliable access to a
computer with a stable internet connection. Classroom meetings will also be via Zoom. It is necessary to have a camera and microphone on your computer. If not please let your instructor.

Analyze the roles of the professional nurse within a health care delivery system; apply principles leadership and management utilizing a systematic problem-solving process and critical thinking skills to plan care for patients and their families; examine the factors impacting nursing and healthcare. 

COURSE OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the Professional Nursing: Leadership and Management course, the student will:

Integrate the attributes and roles of the professional nurse into practice; use clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice outcomes as the basis for decision-making and comprehensive, safe patient-centered care; integrate princinples of quality improvement and safety into nursing practice; justify decisions based on legal-ethical parameters for professional nursing practice; and engage in effective professional collaboration in deliver of healthcare for quality patient outcomes.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conductive to learning. Students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students.  Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request for the offending student to leave class.

Zoom Etiquette for Students

To ensure a successful zoom classroom meeting, and engage in a productive learning environment, please keep the following “do’s and don’ts” in mind:

Do’s

  • Find a clean, quiet space and dress appropriately.
  • Let all household members know when and where you will be in class, and ask them not to disturb you.
  • Make sure your full name shows up appropriately.
  • Be aware of your background, lighting, and noise.
  • Mute until you are required to talk. Use the Zoom functions to communicate if needed (chat, raise your hand, answer yes/no, etc.).
  • Use an appropriate zoom background if you wish.
  • Turn off/silence cell phone and close other windows on your computer.
  • Be on time to class. Communicate with your instructor (via their preferred communication method listed on the syllabus) if you will be late or if you lose your connection during class.
  • Pay attention! Maintain eye contact with the speaker on the screen.
  • Be prepared to take notes (on your computer or in a designated notebook) or to access course material (have textbook, D2L course page, or readings available).

Don’ts

  • Enter a zoom that you weren't invited to, share the zoom access information for your class with others, or enter under a different name.
  • Take screenshots, cell phone pictures, or otherwise record the meeting, your classmates, or your instructor without express permission to do so.
  • Change your name or change your zoom background during the meeting.
  • Walk around during the class meeting.
  • Use the chat for side conversations with classmates.
  • Sit in front of a window or bright light, this will make your face too dark to see.
  • Have conversations with household members off camera.
  • Allow household members to walk around behind you during the meeting.
  • Engage in texting, social media, work from other classes, or other distractions while in class.

AC Connect assignments and quizzes will not be accepted after the due date unless previous arrangements have been made with the course instructor.  Any AC Connect assignments and quizzes not submitted by the due date and without notice will be given a zero.  

Formatting and Submission Guidelines

Attendance 

Consistent attendance is mandatory, and attendance will be recorded during every in-class lecture. Attendance and Participation are counted as part of your grade. You will receive a 0 or 100 for attendance.

Rounding of Grades  

The final course average will be rounded to the tenth place. For example, a course average of 79.50% would be rounded to a B. Additional examples of final course averages rounded to the correct letter grade include:

79.77% will be rounded to a letter grade of B

There will be no rounding of individual assignment, quiz, or examination scores earned during a semester.

Attendance/Participation and Concept Maps will be graded as a 0 or 100. There is not a grading ruberic for those two content areas.
