Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisite: Open to any licensed physician, nurse, paramedic or respiratory therapist with a current American Heart Association Health Care Provider BCLS card
Theory and skills necessary for the management of cardiovascular emergencies as specified by the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency.

American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider Manual; (most recent year).

At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each chapter, to effectively assess and manage prehospital patients with cardiovascular complaints. It is desired that the course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student's final grade is not less than a grade of "C" as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than "C" will result in failure of the course.

The ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment MUST be turned in on the beginning of Day 1 in order to continue in the course. Failure to turn in the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment will result in automatic dismissal from the course, including receiving a grade of "F" for the course. Refunds subject to Amarillo College policy. (This an American Heart Association requirement.)
The course grade is based 100% off the final ACLS written exam.
Grading Scale:
Please note that according to American Heart Association guidelines, all students must make an 84% or higher on the written ACLS exam in order to pass.
Remediation on the Written Exam will be conducted if a student score between a 76 and 82. That grade will be recorded as the Final Average grade for the course.
If a student scores less than a 74 on the Written Student, the student will be given one opportunity to retake the Written Exam to score an 84% of better. The average of the two exam scores will be recorded as the Final Average grade for the course.
100% attendance is necessary for successful completion of this course due to American Heart Association guidelines. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to attend the entire class.
