Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) For more information on Drop and Withdrawal Policies, please visit the Registrar's Office Web site.

Syllabus Information

Textbooks

Assigned music will be provided for participating in your scenes.

Supplies

Depending on the variation of staging, you might be asked to provide your own face make-up or to provide pieces of costume for your character roles.

Student Performance

You will earn your grade by attending rehearsals with your prepared music assignments completed and by completing your staged performance(s). Because of the nature of the rehearsal and performing process, you cannot make-up any missed events. The grade for missed events will be recorded as a zero. For rehearsals, you are to be warmed up and ready to go at the time that the rehearsal is scheduled to start. For performance, you are to be in the designated space at the call time. Tardiness will be recorded as a deduction from the full points allowed for each event.

The nature of ensemble singing requires close proximity to others. Because of this, you should plan to refrain from applying scents to the body and tend to any body odor(s) that might cause adverse reaction to others, which would include bathing with soap and brushing/flossing teeth and using breath fresheners if needed.

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

This class will require performing and time obligations that meet outside of the parameters of the class schedule for performances. Students are expected to be model ambassadors of the Amarillo College music department when in public venues.

Grading Criteria

A weekly grade will be given based on attendance, participation, performance and preparation. Final grade will be the average of all weekly grades given. Rehearsals will account for 60% of your grade. Performance(s) account for 40% of your grade. Because performances are extraordinary events, a missed performance grade cannot be made up.

Final Semester Grade Scale:

90-100%   A

80-89        B

70-79        C

60-69        D

0-59          F

Grades will be recorded on Blackboard.

Attendance

You will receive a written schedule of rehearsals and performances for your involvement in Opera Workshop. Not all students will have the same schedule depending on the scenes in which they are scheduled.

Calendar

Our class will align with the Amarillo College academic calendar. However, because we work in tandem with the Amarillo Opera Association (AOA), there may be times when rehearsals might fall into a window of a holiday break, in which case, we need to honor the schedule of AOA.
