Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

EDUC-1301-010 Introduction to the Teaching Profession
An enriched, integrated pre-service course and content experience that provides active recruitment and institutional support of students interested in a teaching career, especially in high need fields. The course provides students with opportunities to participate in early field observations at all levels of P-12 schools with varied and diverse student populations and provides students with support from college and school faculty, preferably in small cohort groups, for the purpose of introduction to and analysis of the culture of schooling and classrooms. Course content should be aligned as applicable with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards; and the course must include a minimum of 16 contact hours of field experience in P-12 classrooms.

All assignments are due on or before the due date. Late work will be accepted but will not receive full credit unless stated in a particular Blackboard assignment. A maximum of 70% will be earned if submitted within 7 days of the original due date. Zeros will remain in the grade book after a week has passed.
If a student does not complete the observation and journal requirements as designated, an “F” grade will be given for the course.
If there is a complaint from a cooperating teacher about a student’s behavior during observations, a grade of “F” may be given for the course.

Observation Guidelines
It is an excellent opportunity to step into a classroom and expand your knowledge while developing skills to help you become an exceptional teacher! Young students are eager to welcome you into their learning environment for observation. You will be provided specific guidelines for these 16 hours of observation to ensure a successful and meaningful experience. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in points being deducted from your observation grade, depending on the nature of the infraction. Professionalism is of the utmost importance! You represent yourself and Amarillo College and serve as a role model to the students you observe. This is a significant responsibility, and we trust that you will approach this experience with the seriousness it deserves.
Students must be aware of these requirements and plan accordingly when scheduling work, family responsibilities, and other course loads to prevent frustration and disappointment in one of the areas. Students must complete and verify the 16 hours of public school teacher observation to receive credit for this course.
As part of this course, a criminal background check will be required to complete the 16 hours of observation. As a student observer, you understand and agree that you must provide a driver's license, social security number, and date of birth to facilitate a background check.
