Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) End-of-Course Outcomes: 

Develop a security plan; establish suitable level of protection; determine legal issues; implement network security design; and revise risk analysis and security plan.

Here are the key domains covered in this course in preparation of the CompTIA Pentest+ PT0-002 certification exam:

  1. Planning and Scoping (14%): This section emphasizes governance, risk, and compliance concepts, scoping, and organizational/customer requirements. It ensures candidates demonstrate an ethical hacking mindset.
  2. Information Gathering and Vulnerability Scanning (22%): Skills related to performing vulnerability scanning and passive/active reconnaissance, vulnerability management, and analyzing reconnaissance results.
  3. Attacks and Exploits (30%): Covers expanded attack surfaces, researching social engineering techniques, network attacks, wireless attacks, application-based attacks, and attacks on cloud technologies. Also includes post-exploitation techniques.
  4. Reporting and Communication (18%): Focuses on the importance of reporting and communication during the pen testing process. Candidates analyze findings and recommend appropriate remediation within a report.
  5. Tools and Code Analysis (16%): Concepts related to identifying scripts in various software deployments, analyzing script or code samples, and explaining use cases of various tools used during penetration testing.

Attendance

  • Check your email daily.  The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email issued to each AC student.
  • Attendance for on-campus classes will be taken during each class period. Excessive absence and lack of participation may result in failure of the course.
  • Students should plan on spending a minimum of 10-12 hours per week on this course, outside of class. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity. Please schedule your time, so that you are able to devote the appropriate energy and effort to achieve success in this course.

Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time. Late work is not accepted without written permission from your instructor prior to the due date.

All work due in Cengage MindTap has a late policy of: You have 5 days to complete the assignment after the due date and a 10% late penalty will be applied to your grade. After the 5 days, the assignment will not be available.

Recommended ExperienceNetwork+, Security+ or equivalent knowledge. Minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on information security or related experience. While there is no required prerequisite, PenTest+ is intended to follow CompTIA Security+ or equivalent experience and has a technical, hands-on focus.

 

PenTest+ is compliant with ISO 17024 standards and approved by the US DoD to meet directive 8140/8570.01-M requirements. Regulators and government rely on ANSI accreditation, because it provides confidence and trust in the outputs of an accredited program.
