The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Dual Credit Course
ITSC-2335 continues with the Exploring Microsoft Office 2019 series utilized in BCIS-1305.
Access to the accompanying learning management system, MyLabIT, is a required element of this course.
MyLabIT access codes remain active for 1 full year. If you completed BCIS 1305 before Summer 2020, you may need to purchase a MyLabIT access code. An access code may be purchased from the AC Bookstore or directly from the MyLabIT website linked in the course.
MyLabIT access includes an electronic version (e-text) of the appropriate textbooks, Exploring Microsoft Office 365, Excel 2019, Comprehensive and Exploring Microsoft Office 365, Access 2019, Comprehensive.
If you prefer to have a printed text for reference, you may purchase the texts directly from the publisher using a credit card (cost is approximately $35/textbook). A link will be provided in MyLabIT for this purpose. Your high school teacher should also have references copies of the two texts in the classroom.
Microsoft Office 2019 / Microsoft 365 subscription software (Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word)
If you wish to complete work on your personal computer/laptop, Microsoft Office 2019/Microsoft 365 must be installed.
Earlier versions of Microsoft Office (2016, 2013, 2010, etc.) are not fully compatible with this course. "Free" software such as Open Office, or Google Docs/Sheets, or Office 365 for Education, or Office Online are NOT compatible with this course.

A high speed and reliable internet connection. All work is completed online with an internet connection.

A PC (personal computer) running Microsoft Windows 8 or higher operating system
Students may also use a Mac/Apple computer, although the course is specifically designed for Windows-based systems. Mac/Apple computers do NOT run Microsoft Access, which is covered in the first four weeks of the course.
A Chromebook or tablet does NOT have the necessary functionality to address important elements of the course and a student CANNOT successfully complete the course using only a Chromebook or tablet. Some tasks can be completed using a Chromebook, but the bulk of the course requires a traditional computer with the appropriate software.
After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to demonstrate understanding of the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program.

After completing the Access section the student will be able to:
Understand basic database concepts

The main focus of this course is to understand and use various business software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other miscellaneous business applications.

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. The faculty of the CIS program reserve the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test, exam, or project by reproducing any specific section or all sections of any assignment in question. Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of F in this course and possible further disciplinary action.
Integrity violations (using all or part of another student’s file) in MyLabIT will result in both parties receiving a 0 on the assignment and no make-up assignment is permitted. Integrity violations are automatically flagged by MyLabIT software whenever elements of another person's file are detected in an uploaded student file.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS
Chapter Notes (10% of final course grade)
Chapter Notes will be completed for each Microsoft Access textbook chapter covered in the course. Students will be provided with a template and a list of terms and concepts of focus for the chapter. Students will either type or write responses and upload the completed work to a Blackboard dropbox. Responses are expected to be brief and written in simple and easy to understand language, and not copied directly from the textbook.The purpose of this note-taking is to drive students to the e-text, a valuable learning resource, and to assist students in focusing on the key elements of each chapter. Chapter Notes can be completed using Word, Google Docs, or by handwriting the responses. Thus, these assignments can be completed outside of the classroom if necessary. Chapter Quizzes will be completed for each Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word textbook chapter covered in the course. Quizzes are multiple choice, true/false, and matching. You are encouraged to consult the textbook when completing these quizzes. Quizzes are completed in Blackboard and can be completed on a variety of devices, including Chromebooks.
Simulation Training (20% of final course grade)
Simulation Trainings are activities that teach students how to complete tasks and commands introduced in specific chapters of the textbook. Simulation Training is conducted in MyLabIT, in an online, simulated ("fake") computer program that mimics the software application. Simulation training is required and will be graded. Training will always remain open, however. Thus, even though a due date has passed, students may return to training and repeat training as often as desired. For grading purposes, only the highest grade attempt will be reported to the gradebook in Blackboard. Trainings are set in learning mode, so each student should be able to obtain a 100 on each training. As long as you do not give up, this is a nice way to add some points to your grade. Simulation Trainings are completed within MyLabIT and can be attempted on a variety of computing devices (such as a Chromebook). Thus, these assignments can be worked on outside of the classroom if necessary. Simulation Trainings can be saved and completed at a later session.
Chapter Projects (40% of final course grade)
Chapter Projects entail downloaded files that the student will alter based upon a set of instructions and then upload to MyLabIT for grading. Projects are an effective tool for demonstrating an understanding of chapter concepts. Students are permitted two attempts on each of these Chapter Projects. Students are highly encouraged to locate and correct any errors made on the first attempt in order to support learning and integration of the chapter concepts. The higher grade of the two attempts will be recorded in the Blackboard gradebook--another simple way to add points to your grade. Completion of Chapter Projects requires full access to Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word software applications. Apple/Mac computers do not support Microsoft Access. Chromebooks and tablets do not support Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft Word.
Final Exam (30% of final course grade)
The Final Exam is taken in four parts: Excel Assessment Project (Week 14), Final Exam: Excel Capstone Project, Final Exam: Access Capstone Project, and Final Exam: Word Capstone Project. The Excel Assessment Project is a unique project in Excel, completed in MyLabIT, to gauge the student's ability to think through how to problem-solve with minimal instruction. The Capstones Projects (Week 16) are similar to the chapter projects in MyLabIT; however, each capstone project is cumulative, covering all chapters in the application, and only one attempt is permitted on each capstone. In addition, each of the capstones can be substituted by taking a Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. See the MOS Certification Exam substitution option below.
MOS CERTIFICATION EXAM (optional)
A MOS certification exam may substitute for one or more of the final exam capstones. All three parts of the final may be substituted. In fact, it’s encouraged!
Completion of MOS Certification Exams will satisfy the Final Exam requirements (see below):
Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Associate (Excel and Excel 2019), MO-200* substitutes for Part 2 of the Final Exam (Excel Capstone Project)
Microsoft Office Specialist: Word Associate (Word and Word 2019), MO-100* substitutes for Part 3 of the Final Exam (Word Capstone Project)
Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Excel Expert (Excel and Excel 2019), MO-201; or Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Word Expert (Word and Word 2019), MO-101; or Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Access Expert (Access and Access 2019), MO-500 substitutes for Part 1 of the Final Exam (Access Capstone Project). To clarify, any one of the three certifications listed (MO-201, M-101, or MO-500) substitutes for Part 1 of the Final Exam (Access Capstone Project).
How a MOS exam score correlates to a Final Exam grade:
>700 points = 95 on Final Exam (and MOS certification)
600-699 points = 85 on Final Exam
500-599 points = 75 on Final Exam
<500 points = retake MOS Exam or take Final exam
Actual MOS certification is ONLY awarded for an exam score >700
*If you have already obtained some MOS certifications, speak with your instructor about additional/alternative MOS certifications that will substitute for the Final Exam*
