Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Focus on enterprise Cloud architechture, with advanced topics including multi-Cloud platforms inclusive of computing, networking, storage, monitoring, and database.

Textbooks

No Textbook is required for this course. Students will be enrolled in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy by their instructor. All learning and lab material will be included free of charge to the student. 

Students will gain an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. This course provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, and support. 

Students will go in-depth on the following topics:

  • Describe the six advantages of cloud computing 
  • Describe three cloud deployment models 
  • Use the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework to help organizations transform storage solutions
  • Explain AWS Lambda, which is serverless computing
  • Describe use cases for storage options
  • Understand virtual networking in the cloud
  • Create virtual firewalls with security groups
  • Provide an overview of different database services in the cloud
  • Review the availability differences of alternative database solutions
  • Describe different types of security credentials
  • Discuss security compliance
  • Explore well-architected pillars and design principles
  • Understand high availability and reliability
  • Describe business impact design decisions

At the end of this course the Student will receive an AWS Badge and Certificate of Completion and be able to sit for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam.

End-of-Course Outcomes:  Identify the essential characteristics of Cloud services, including: on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service; describe the organizational capabilities relevant for realizing Cloud benefits, including adequate planning, required IT skills, gradual/staged migration pathways, identifying critical success factors, etc.; describe the steps that lead to the successful adoption of Cloud and the implications for organizations; describe data center infrastructure management (DCIM) processes and solutions, including the software and hardware tools used to organize and manage resources; create, manage, and scale a virtual server in a Cloud environment; describe Cloud maintenance operations including: security patches, updating Cloud elements, and backup operations; identify business drivers for Cloud computing and assessing their economic impact.

It is the policy of the Career and Technical Education Division and the Electronics Program that pagers and cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode in the classroom setting and pagers and cell phones must be turned off while in labs.

All work is provided for each student at the beginning of the semester. It is your responsibility to ensure all work is completed by the scheduled dates.

** This is an accelerated 8 week course and requires substantial work outside of class.

Attendance

  • Check your email daily.  The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email issued to each AC student.
  • Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time.  There is a "no late work" policy, except in extreme circumstances.
  • Attendance for on-campus classes will be taken during each class period. Attendance for online classes will be monitored by access log-in dates recorded in Blackboard and uCertify.  Excessive absence and lack of participation may result in failure of the course.
  • Students should plan on spending a minimum of 10-12 hours per week on this course, outside of class. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity. Please schedule your time, so that you are able to devote the appropriate energy and effort to achieve success in this course.

 THIS IS AN 8 WEEK COURSE AND REQUIRES SUBSTANTIAL OUTSIDE OF CLASS WORK.

The weeks chapter work including Review Quizzes, Live Virtual Machine Labs, and other assigned materials are due by Midnight on the day prior to the first class meeting of the week. Late work will be assessed a 5 point penalty for every late day. A “Zero” will be recorded in the grade book for any assignment more than a week late!
