The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program:
1. Play assigned music in an ensemble.
2. Understand tempo markings.
3. Understand dynamics markings.
4. Perform assigned music at a performance level.

For 30 minute elective:
Students are expected to practice at least 30 minutes per day, for a total of 3 to 5 hours weekly.
For 60 minute elective:
Students are expected to practice at least 60 minutes per day, for a total of 6 to 10 hours weekly.
For music majors in their major area:
Students are expected to practice 10 to 15 hours per week, divided equally among the days of the week.

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.

The student should contact the instructor prior to the first week of the semester to determine the time for the weekly lesson. This can be done by e-mailing the instructor (seek link at top of this syllabus), or by calling the Music Department Office (371-5340) for the instructor’s contact information. Guitar ensemble and guitar class will meet at the scheduled time.
First Meeting: Meet with instructor; determine goals for the semester, choose music, and receive first practice assignment.
Second Meeting: Prepare the given assignment, and bring all required materials to lesson.
Third and subsequent Meetings: Each upcoming week's assignment will be determined by the progress demonstrated during the previous week's class.
14th week of school: All music must be memorized.
Practice rooms are available, located in Concert Hall south hallway; any rooms that are unlocked and contain a piano are available for individual practice.
