STUDENT PRINTING PROCEDURES

For students to put money on their account, they must go to this website https://acprinthub.actx.edu/myprintcenter/ and either use PayPal account or their credit/debit card to add money, or they can go to the Student Services building to add money with credit/debit or with cash. Neither Writers’ Corner or the Writing Lab can add money to the account.

However, if the students need help adding money to their account, we can help them do that here in the lab. All students are responsible for adding money to their own account. But students need to have money on their own account in order to print anywhere on campus.

English Department Plagiarism Policy (Revised Spring, 2013):

The English Department takes plagiarism seriously.

Plagiarism is defined as the following:  the use of someone else’s exact words that are neither quoted nor cited; paraphrasing someone else’s words without citing them; or using someone else’s research without citing it.

Student plagiarism in the Amarillo College English Department is internally tracked.  To clarify, records will be kept in the Department of those students who have plagiarized.  At the beginning of each new semester, the names of students who plagiarized the previous semester will be sent to all English Department faculty.

Plagiarism may receive a penalty of a zero.  A subsequent infraction will be deemed a reason for expulsion from the class. At this point, the case will be referred to the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Note: Self-plagiarism will be discussed with the class by each instructor and infractions for such are left up to the individual instructor’s discretion.

Log in using the AC Connect Portal

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

  • Communicate, Communicate, Communicate.  I cannot help you if I don’t know what is going on.  I can’t allow you grace on something if I do not know what is happening.  I really can’t help you if I do not know what the problem is.  PLEASE, please communicate with me…email me…text me…give me a call, come see me during my office hours: those don’t work for you?  Make an appointment and we can have a zoom meeting at a suitable time for you.
  • Due to the short, intense nature of this course, students are expected to be logged into class Monday-Thursday and on time every day.
  • Please be courteous with the use of your phone during class.
  • Please be courteous about using Air/earpods while we are trying to have a conversation or someone else is talking.  (Not applicable to online class)
  • Plagiarism will most likely result in a zero on an assignment, which may fail the student for the course.

Grading Criteria

There will be 2 grammar quizzes on blackboard that each student needs to take each week for the first six weeks (except the first week, there is only one).  You can take them on your own time before Sunday night of each week.  You will have three attempts to take each quiz and the highest grade will be recorded.

Daily Work includes homework, pop quizzes, peer reviews, or in-class assignments.  Generally, I do not accept late work if a student is absent—the lowest daily grade assignment will be dropped.

Daily Work also includes homework.  Homework is due on the day it is expected—if you are wondering exactly about a due date, please check the schedule, the weekly checklist, and then email me.

Since I do not generally accept late work, there will be no credit given for late homework.  So, that means if a homework assignment is given on Monday and is due Tuesday, and you are absent Tuesday; you can not turn it in and receive credit for it when you come back to class on Wednesday.  It is late, and it was due Tuesday.  If you submit it by email before class on Tuesday, it is not late; however, if you submit it by email after class on Tuesday, it is late because it was due during class that day.  Major essays will be penalized 15 points for each day it is late; a day is a 24 hour period.  So, if the paper was due Wednesday during class and you turn it in after class, it is 15 points late.

Any of the major papers turned in on time that score a 69 or below can be resubmitted for a better grade.  The student must first meet with the instructor and discuss the paper, and then the work can be revised and resubmitted within a week of receiving the grade. The highest grade achievable for resubmission is a 70.

If a student scores below 70% on an exam or writing assignment, he or she will be required to attend tutoring per the instructor’s directions before being allowed to complete the next assigned work.

Attendance

Students are required to log on during classtime everyday.
