Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Supplies

 Tools are provided by Instructor for in-class use in required shop and lab projects.

Tools are required for student employment during program and before graduation. Tool Purchase Opportunities with discounts at Sears, Mac, Snap-on and Western Equipment will be given and encouraged.

Cost for these tools and boxes average $1500.00 - $ 2000.00. You are responsible for purchasing these tool before graduation.

Safety Glasses are required on the first day of class and each time entering and or working in the lab-shop.

Long pants and non-slip shoes are required.


 Leather Gloves required for attaching and removing high pressure air-conditioning manifold gage test hoses.Amarillo College shirts, or Company provided are required each day for class, clean and tucked in.

Student Performance

Advanced concepts in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Truck cab 134a air conditioning systems.

Perform advanced diagnosis using specialized testing equipment and procedures; evaluate components using visual and standard testing procedures; and reclaim and recycle 134a refrigerants using approved standards and equipment.

Utilizing N.A.T.E.F. competency’s in the class lab and shop lab and sign off sheets using competency profiles.

Lectures and hands on in class and lab assignments help prepare students for the ASE. Certification tests are given throughout the year on MED/HVY Diesel  A-7 heating and A/C and the ASE Freon Recovery air conditioning test.

End of course outcomes.. Basic PMI Service for trailer mounted refrigeration units and truck cab air-conditioning units, servicing of small Diesel engines, unit electrical systems and battery. Demonstrate safe working skills in the lab and understand inherent dangers and safety precautions when working on high pressure refrigeration systems. Understand basic concepts of major components of the refrigeration systems. Prepare for ASE. testing.

Shop assignments, hands on skills. PMI's performed on a trailer mounted unit. Students will demonstrate the ability to safely connect A/C gages and determine service valve positions.

Expected Student Behavior

Safety Glasses  and a  Amarillo College shirt are required to be worn in the shop... and are required for the class. Failure to wear safety glasses while in the lab-shop area will result in being asked to leave the class and student will receive an F for the final grade. This is Amarillo College policy and is required for employment in this field of study.

Maturity, honesty and respect is required and given.

As a participating student in Amarillo College Technical Programs, you will be expected to act, perform and train in a professional manner.

Compliance with the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct is mandatory for class participation.

Students must come to class wearing the appropriate AC uniform shirt or a company shirt with the company logo from the company that the student works for.

Student MUST wear safety glasses in the shop/lab.

Students MUST wear a face covering or mask while on Campus

No cell phones are to be in use during class unless requested by instructor.

Students will be respectful of other classes being conducted in the building, respectful of instructor.

Students are expected to dress appropriately (shirts tucked in, no profanity on clothing, pants must be worn in the proper location (around the waist).

No head gear to be worn in building, except in shop, then must be worn appropriately. 

No tobacco or e-vape use on campus.

Student will have the text book out following along with lecture and participating in the lecture and class.

Grading Criteria

Final grade will be figured as  Follws:

Homework 10%

Attendance and Participation 10%

Test 25%

Shop/lab Task sheets 40%

Final 15% 

All assignments will be turned in a timely manner for a grade or the student will receive a failing grade (F). 

            Shop/lab projects grade is at the instructor’s discretion.

Homework is due the class day after the test for the chapter(s), or 10 points will be taken off grade of the homework for each class day that it is late. Homework for the last chapter(s) of the course is due day of the last test.

All job work sheets are due by the next shop class after the job work sheet was to be done or five points will be taken from the grade for each class day late.

Shop write ups are due by the next shop day or five points will be taken off the shop write up for each class day that it is late.

Lose of points from being absent; tardiness and leaving early totaling 6 days will result in a failure grade. No matter what the students other grades add up to.

Instructor holds the rights to add to the points or take points away, depending on student’s performance.

Student following of the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct will be considered in the final grade.

Attendance

Class attendance is mandatory and will effect final grade. Learning tricks of the trade will only come from attending lectures and hands on instruction.

Points will be taken off for tardiness and leaving early.


Loss of points from being absent; tardiness and/ or leaving early adding up to 6 days will result in a failing grade.

Being absent more than 6 days will result in a failing grade, no matter what the students other grades add up to.

Points taken off for tardy and early departures will be at instructor’s discretion. The points being deducted will be in a progressive manner. Where each time tardy or early leave the time from each will be added together and then the points will be figured from that.

Leaving without signing out is same as Early Departure Unexcused.

Signing out early without instructor’s permission is same as Early Departure Unexcused.

 Students must sign themselves in and out. Students are not allowed to sign another student in or out.

This schedule is a tentative outline of times and test.  These dates are subject to change dependent on speed of individual classes and informational transition to students.  If you plan on missing any days of instruction, your instructor must be given this information in writing, or E-Mail.  Failure to follow these instructions forfeits the student’s ability to make up work test outside of the instructors permission.

Module 5 Final test.
