Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) RTVB1447 is designed to accomplish these objectives:

 

  1. The student will be able to maintain broadcast time schedules.
  2. The student will be able to improve upon production concepts and abilities using computer software and hardware for editing purposes
  3. The student will be able to improve on-air abilities with regularly scheduled air checks.
  4. The student will be able to work with and assist beginning and returning students to operate and organize workspace.
  5. The student will be able to organize newscasts and music programming using computer hardware and software systems.
  6. The student will be able to conduct contests with men and women listeners from diverse backgrounds.
  7. The student will be able to function as a team member of station air staff including on-air, production, and remotes.
  8. The student will be able to recover from control and production studio software and hardware crashes.
  9. The student will be able to write and produce promotional/underwriter announcements for the station.
  10. The student will be able to create and present new ideas for information broadcasts to station listeners.
  11. The student will assume responsibility for pre-recorded programs for broadcast on the station.
  12. The student will be able to present information that is both ethical and legal during the operation of the station.
  13. The student will be able to produce and distribute air checks for possible employment in commercial radio using computer hardware and software, while measuring self-growth.
  14. The student will present at least 1 live remote.
  15. The student will produce a major campaign in production assignment demonstrating the culmination of skills learned in production.

Expected Student Behavior

Students will meet in person on campus for production demo in accordance with course calendar. Assignments are due according to course calendar.

Students are required to:

  • Complete one 3-hour shift on FM90 each week
  • Conduct a contest on FM90
  • Attend at least one live remote broadcast
  • Complete two airchecks during the semester

Course Requirements:

10 Production Exercises (50% total - 5% each)

16 Board Shifts (At least one 3-hour shift per week, including training new students) (20% total)

2 Air Checks scheduled with Program Director (air checks will demonstrate student mastery of FM90 studio through use of equipment and format elements.) (10%: 5% each)

APT (Attitude, Participation, and Teamwork) (10%)

Final Project (10%)

= 100%

 

Grading:

 

A = Excellent (100%-90%)

B = Good (89%-80%)

C = Average (79%-70%)

D = Weak (69%-60%)

F = Unacceptable (59%-0%)

 

In this class there are 10 production assignments:

  • Exercise 1: Edit Beatles hooks.
  • Exercise 2: Record voice and use effects.
  • Exercise 3: Create a new music promo.
  • Exercise 4: Write a PSA.
  • Exercise 5: Create an image promo.
  • Exercise 6: Write a blog for FM90's website.
  • Exercise 7: Interview a Club Sponsor.
  • Exercise 8: Create a promo of your choice.
  • Exercise 9: Pre-record, select music, and edit a Specialty Show.
  • Exercise 10: Create a promo of your choice with a quick turnaround.

Final Project: Students will compile their best production, an aircheck and will create a resume.

 

To complete this course students are required to broadcast on KACV-FM (FM90).

 

Board Shifts: One 3-hour shift is required each week. These shifts will be assigned with the FM90 Program Director based on the student's schedule.

 

Grading for Board Shifts: number of airshifts, being on time for shifts, air checks, (APT) Attitude, Participation, and Teamwork, and overall knowledge of equipment. More than two unexcused absences from the FM90 will result in suspension.

 

Other requirements: We will cover a large amount of material in this class and your attendance is essential. You will be allowed five absences between class and lab. You cannot be on the air if you do not attend class.

 

When a veteran student stops attending class, the Registrar's Office and the veteran's counselor will be notified.

 

NO official warnings will be given to students when excessive absences jeopardize their successful completion of the class.

 

Late Assignments: All course work (including, but not limited to: assignments, labs, quizzes, exams, and final projects) must be submitted no later than the due date unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor and a new due date is established. If a student submits an assignment after the due date without having made arrangements with the instructor, a minimum of 5 points PER DAY LATE will be enforced (based on an assignment grading scale of 100 points).

We will cover a large amount of material in this class and your attendance is essential. You will be allowed five absences between class and lab. You cannot be on the air if you do not attend class.

 

Additionally, the following policies must be observed:

1. Failture to pull an assigned board shift may result in a deduction from your final grade and may result in suspension from FM90. If a situation which prevents you from pulling your shift is unavoidable, it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift. You will not be penealized for getting someone to cover the shift, but the Program Director must be aware of all changes prior to going on the air.

 

2. FM90 air personalities are required to be aware of and follow the FM90 Operations Manual, Amarillo College policies, Matney Mass Media policies and FCC operational rules. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION from the air for an indefinite period of time.

School and Government Police: Due to the nature of the radio industry (government licensed), it is imperative that you understand and follow both school policy and FCC regulations regarding the operations of KACV-FM. You must sign and return 1.) The attached form and 2.) The form attached to the operations manual, or the Online Course Contract. Both must be turned in immediately to the instructor. Failure to follow these rules will result in withdrawal from the class. NO EXCUSES!
