Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Sec.A53.152.A

A NOTICE BY ENTITIES PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL
PROGRAMS. (a) An entity that provides an educational program to
prepare an individual for issuance of an initial occupational
license shall notify each applicant to and enrollee in the
educational program of:

(1)A the potential ineligibility of an individual who
has been convicted of an offense for issuance of an occupational
license on completion of the educational program;

(2)A the current guidelines issued under Section 53.025
by any licensing authority that may issue an occupational license
to an individual who completes the educational program;

(3)A any other state or local restriction or guideline
used by a licensing authority described by Subdivision (2) to
determine the eligibility of an individual who has been convicted
of an offense for an occupational license issued by the licensing
authority; and

(4)A the right to request a criminal history evaluation
letter under Section 53.102.

 

 

The EMSP program UNIFORM MUST be appropriately worn at all times while attending EMSP classes, labs, and events. Failure to do so will result in NON-admittance to that particular class/lab session with associated grade losses or penalties. In addition, students are representatives of Amarillo College while in uniform. As such, disciplinary action (up to, and including, removal from the program) will be taken against any student wearing the uniform inappropriately, or in an unfitting location, whether on (or outside) an AC class or event.

 

 

Following completion of this course the student will possess all the knowledge and skills necessary to competently assess and manage with cardiac emergencies.  Includes basic dysrhythmia interpretation, recognition of 12-lead EKGs for field diagnosis, and electrical and pharmacological interventions.

Course Requirements

Lecture

Do not be tardy. Do not be absent. (Tardy = Absent) Examinations will be administered at the
beginning of class periods.

Examinations will initiated at the beginning of class.  Examinations cannot be made up.

Laboratory

Do not be tardy. Do not be absent. (Tardy = Absent) Overall course decuctions will be made for each laboratory absence..

A cumulative average of 70% is required to pass this course.

Skills Examinations

Skills examinations will be administered as laboratory practical exams. All skills exams must be performed to a level deemed satisfactory by the skills examiner. The skills examiner will use the criteria of the Texas Department of Health and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians to evaluate skills performance. The skills examination forms are in the Course Laboratory Manual for study, practice, and evaluation.The objectives for the course are the objectives from the USDOT National Standard Curriculum. The objectives for each chapter in the textbooks are written at the beginning of each chapter.

Students are encouraged to read and thoroughly study these objectives prior to the class session in which the objectives will be covered.

Cell Phones

Telephones are disruptive during class time. Telephones must be turned off/silent during class time.  If you feel that you will have an emergency during class time, leave the number of the student services office and they will contact you immediately. The number is 371-5300. 

Texting during class is grounds for dismissal from the course.  If a student violates this this policy the student will be advised to withdraw from the course or receive a grade of “F”.

Grading Criteria

Grading Criteria

A cumulative average of 70% on all written exams is required to pass this course.

Grade Calculation

Quizes = 20 % of Final Average

Exams and ACLS Study Guide Assignment = 40% of Final Average

Written algorithms are Pass/Fail; they do not affect course grade. Failure to write assigned algorithm on assigned date will result in dismissal from EMSP 2444.

Comprehensive Final Exam = 40% of Final Average


Letter Grades

A = 90%-100%
B = 80%-89%
C = 70%-79%
F = Any grade below 70%
