I maintain an "open-door" policy. If my office door is open, you are welcome in, without an appointment. This is an idea of when my "door is open": Normal hours will be Monday, 0900-1600, Tuesday and Thursday mornings 0900-1100, Wednesday from 1000-1600 (I have Paramedic Students in lab from 0800-1700, so I'm in and out of the office. Text me to be sure that I will be in the office for you.) and Friday mornings, by appointment.
Throughout the week, I have meetings, appointments off campus, etc. To avoid making a trip to the Academy for nothing, please feel free to text me to make sure I'm in the office before coming in to see me. I value your time and gasoline that it takes to get to the Academy and it will never be an inconvenience for you to text me.

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. Learning Outcomes:
Integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for the medical patient.
At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each text chapter, to effectively assess and manage patients. It is desired that course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student’s final grade is not less than a grade of “C” as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than “C” will result in failure of the course.

Pursuant to Amarillo College Policy, tobacco use in any form is not permitted in the classroom or lab. Smoking of any tobacco products and the use of electronic or vapor smoking devices are prohibited on all Amarillo College property and in buildings and facilities on all campuses and locations, including parking areas, green spaces, and walkways. The use of tobacco products which are smokeless and vaporless is prohibited inside any College building. This policy does not apply to East Campus Housing. Violation of the Amarillo College Tobacco Policy may result in immediate expulsion from the program.
AMARILLO COLLEGE EMSP HANDBOOKS: Amarillo College's EMSP Program has adopted an Advanced Student Handbook & Internship Manual, detailing expectations and requirements for all students. At all times, students SHALL conduct themselves in a in accordance with the provisions of the approved EMSP Advanced Student Handbook, as well as Amarillo College Policies. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the course and Amarillo College.
Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated. The Amarillo College, 2010, Student Rights and Responsibilities Publication states, "scholastic dishonesty, punishable as prescribed by Board policies, shall include, but not be limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism, and collusion" (p. 11). Additionally, the Advanced Student Handbook sets forth the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Cheating Reporting Requirement. All instances of academic dishonesty, as a matter of Texas Law, must be reported to DSHS. DSHS sanctions for academic dishonesty could result in the loss of any existing EMS certifications. Advanced students must hold a valid certification to remain in the program.

Grading Scale:
A student who will not complete a Major Exam on the scheduled day must contact the instructor before the scheduled exam, if possible. Otherwise notify ASAP. If the absence is excused, the test must be taken BEFORE the next class session. A grade of ZERO for that exam will be averaged in to final grade if this policy is not followed.
Attendance will be taken and recorded at the beginning of each class and lab. Advanced Students must meet attendance requirements, as set forth in the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook, pgs. 7-9. Failure to meet these requirements may lead to a failing grade in the course. For purposes of this class, regular lecture attendance is necessary for successful completion of the course. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. After 2 absences from lecture, a two-point deduction for each additional absence will be taken from the student’s final average. When a student reaches 3 absences, or tardies, the Program Director will be notified by the instructor.
LABORATORY:
Attendance will be taken and recorded at the beginning of each class and lab. Advanced Students must meet attendance requirements, as set forth in the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook, pgs. 7-9. Failure to meet these requirements may lead to a failing grade in the course. Regular lab attendance is mandatory for successful completion of this course. When a student reaches 3 absences, or tardies, the Program Director will be notified by the instructor. Additionally, a lab participation grade will be given based on a total score of 100: Each tardy deducts 3 points, each absence deducts 9 points. Each failed skill deducts 5 points. No skill can be failed more than twice for successful completion of this course.
