Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) POFI-2331-001 Desktop Publishing for the Office

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: POFI 2301 -minimum grade of C or demonstrated competence

Course Description

In-depth coverage of desktop publishing terminology, text editing and use of design principles. Emphasis on layout techniques, graphics, multiple page displays and business applications. This course is designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency.

Microsoft Publisher 2019. If you do not have a subscription of Office 365, you can get Office 365 Personal for $6.99 per month
   (no annual contract) on Microsoft's website. Here is the link : Office 365 Personal

The application, Microsoft Publisher 2019 is NOT available on a Apple MAC desktop or book.

Chromebook will NOT work for this class

Software is available on computers in the Computer Labs on campus.

By the end of this course, the student should have knowledge  of in-depth desktop publishing terminology, text editing, and use of design principles emphasizing layout techniques, graphics, multiple page displays, and business applications.

Log in using the AC Connect Portal

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may receive a 0 on an assignment; may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College.

Students should be prepared to put in  time at home working on the Assignment. Students should expect to put in atleast 5-10 hours work per week at home/lab

Points will be deducted for late work - 5 points per day past the due date. Assignments cannot be turned in for grading 2 weeks past the due date

The Faculty of the Business Technology Program reserve the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test or assignment by reproducing any specific section or the entire test/assignment in question. Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of "F" in this course and possible further disciplinary action.

Grading Criteria

Course grades will be assigned based upon the following criteria:

  • >89.5 = A
  • >79.5 = B
  • >69.5 = C
  • >59.5 = D
  • <59.5 = F

Student evaluation is based upon the following criteria and weights:

  • Attendance    –         5%
  • Chapter Quiz –       15%
  • Training Projects –  20%
  • Grader Projects –   30%
  • Mid-term Exam –    10%
  • Final Project –         20%

Attendance

  1. Check your email daily.  The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email issued to each AC student.
  2. Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time. Five points will be deducted per day past the due date. Assignments/ Projects/Quiz cannot be turned in for grading two weeks past the due date.

  3. Attendance will be taken during each class period. Excessive absence or lack of participation may result in failure of the course.
  4. Students should plan on spending a minimum of 5-10 hours per week on this course. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity. Please schedule your time, so that you are able to devote the appropriate energy and effort to achieve success in this course.
  5. Your instructor, Rashmi Pillai, may be contacted by email through the course in Blackboard. If Blackboard is not available, please email rspillai@actx.edu.  Subject line should include your course name (POFT 2350: write your subject)
  6. In-person meetings or additional help are available if needed or desired. Please contact by email to set up a convenient day/time.
  7. Emails are typically answered within 24-hours. If you do not receive a response within that time-frame, please resend the message as a reminder.
All Week 1 assignments must be completed by the end of Week 1 (Monday, November 1 @ 10pm), in order to be considered Present in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.
 Contact your instructor as soon as you run into any troublesome issues during Week 1, so that assistance can be offered to help you stay on track!!
