The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
1. Read, analyze, and critique philosophical texts.
2. Define and appropriately use important terms such as relativism, virtue, duty, rights, utilitarianism, natural law, egoism, altruism, autonomy, and care ehics.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of major arguments and problems in ethics.
4. Present and discuss well-reasoned ethical positions in writing.
5. Apply ethical concepts and principles to address moral concerns.
6. Apply course material to various aspects of life.
7. Discuss ways of living responsibly in a world where people have diverse ethical beliefs.

Students are expected to participate in the class regularly, which includes completing all scheduled assignments in a timely manner.
Phone Policy: Phones are not allowed in this course. All that you should have out are the textbooks, a pen, and paper. Having your phone out in class will result in points being taken off of your attendance and participation score. Your participation points can be viewed on Blackboard. It is your responsibility to keep track of them.
The penalty for absence is 4 points taken off your participation score. The penalty for having your phone out is class is 4 points off your participation score. Arriving late or leaving early may also result in points taken off of your participation score. This class only meets twice a week, for eight weeks, so it's imperative that you be in class for the full class period. If you can't be here for the full class period, then you shouldn't be in the course.
