The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. Students will utilize spreadsheet software, with a focus on understanding the impact of these applications and technology on our society and in the business world.
At completion of course student will be able to:
Use Excel to manage business data, and analyze empirical data from various sources using complex functions and other tools
Use Excel to prepare visual representation of data through charts and graphs.
Use Excel to create financial models. Students will learn to create amortization models. In addition, students will learn to use tools and features that help with bonds and investment analysis and depreciation of assets in a business.
Use Excel to create statistical models where in students will learn to use tools to predict business outcomes, relationships between data, and predict future values.
Use Excel to manage data to facilitate data driven decision making.
Students will learn to use some powerful features in Excel such as PowerPivot, PowerView etc. These features help you connect to external data within excel and perform analysis.
The main focus of this course is to understand and use business spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may receive a 0 on an assignment; may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College (see Student Rights and Responsibilities).
Students who give another student their files or allow another student to use their work are committing a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Students who engage in this unethical behavior risk being subject to disciplinary action in accordance with College policy.
The Faculty of the CIS Program reserve the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test or assignment by reproducing any specific section or the entire test/assignment in question.
Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of "F" in this course and possible further disciplinary action.
Integrity violations (using all or part of someone else’s file) in MyLab IT will result in both parties receiving a grade of 0 for the assignment and there will be no makeup for that assignment. Integrity violations are automatically flagged by MyLab IT software whenever elements of another person's file are detected in an uploaded student file.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS
Training Projects (30%)
Training Projects are required and will be auto-graded in MyLab IT. These training projects entail downloading files that you then alter based upon a set of instructions. Training projects typically follow the chapter material and provide practice of the chapter concepts. You will have three attempts to complete the training projects successfully. Students are highly encouraged to review their submissions and locate and correct any errors on the initial attempts in order to achieve mastery of the chapter concepts. The highest grade of the three attempts will be recorded in the Blackboard gradebook.
Chapter Quiz (10%)
You will have chapter quizzes based on the textbook material. Each quiz will have questions that will assess your understanding of the concepts being covered during the week including an emphasis on the added features that will help enhance your ability to use the software as needed in your work environment. Students are permitted two attempts on each of these quizzes.
Grader Projects (30%)
Grader projects are required and will be auto-graded in MyLab IT. These grader projects entail downloading files that you then alter based upon a set of instructions. Grader projects are an effective method for demonstrating an understanding of chapter concepts. Students are permitted two attempts on each of these projects. Students are highly encouraged to review their submission and locate and correct any errors on the initial attempt in order to achieve mastery of the chapter concepts. The highest grade of the two attempts will be recorded in the Blackboard gradebook.
Midterm Exam (15%)
The Midterm Exam will be a grader project that will cover Excel CH03 - CH06. See the MOS Certification Exam substitution option below.
Final Exam (15%)
The Final Exam is a comprehensive grader project. See the MOS Certification Exam substitution option below.
Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification Exam (optional)
An Excel MOS exam may substitute for the Midterm Exam and/or Final Exam.
Completion of the MOS Certification Exam will satisfy the exam requirements (see below):
All Week 1 assignments must be completed by Monday (11/01 @ 11:00 PM) in order to be considered Present in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.
