Office Hours

I maintain an "open-door" policy.  If my office door is open, you are welcome in, without an appointment.  This is an idea of when my "door is open":  Normal hours will be Monday, 0900-1600, Tuesday and Thursday mornings 0900-1100, Wednesday from 1000-1600 (I have Paramedic Students in lab from 0800-1700, so I'm in and out of the office.  Text me to be sure that I will be in the office for you.) and Friday mornings, by appointment.

Throughout the week, I have meetings, appointments off campus, etc.  To avoid making a trip to the Academy for nothing, please feel free to text me to make sure I'm in the office before coming in to see me.  I value your time and gasoline that it takes to get to the Academy and it will never be an inconvenience for you to text me.

Grading Criteria

Course Grade:  Written Exam 90% of Final Grade; Psychomotor Skills 10% of Final Grade

The grading scale is as follows:

            A                        =  90% and up

            B                        = 80% - 89%

            C                        = 70% - 79%

            F                        = Below 70%

Students taking this course as Continuing Education with receive a "S" for successful completion or a "U" if unsuccessful.

IMPORTANT:  The AHA requires the student to achieve a score of "84 or higher" on the certification exam, as well as successful completion of all psychomotor skills, in order to receive an AHA Course Completion Card.

No remediation will be available for those who fail to meet these AHA benchmarks.

However, those scoring between 76% and 82% on the written final exam will have an opportunity to remediate on the day of the final exam, provided all psychomotor skills have been successfully completed. A remediated passing score will then constitute completion of AHA requirements, but WILL NOT alter the academic course grade established by the 1st attempt score. Failure to attempt the 2nd written exam (if applicable) constitutes failure of AHA benchmarks (no PALS completion card will be issued), but not necessarily the class academically (please see grading scale above).

Students scoring below 70% on the written, and/or failing any portion of the psychomotor skills, WILL NOT be remediated and FAIL both the course and the AHA benchmarks.

Attendance

Due to the length of this course 100% attendance is mandatory for the the student to effectively compete for a satisfactory grade and an opportunity to sit for the certification examinations.
