The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) For step-by-step help getting registered, head to cengage.com/start-strong and check out training video and instructions. Just select that you’re using MindTap in Blackboard.
None needed other than the access code to the Cengage material and a computer with dependable internet service.
All assignments must be done through Blackboard. Your access to Cengage is linked to the BlackBoard course. Computer with internet access is necessary.
Each week there will be 1 to 3 chapters scheduled. Students are expected to complete each week's assignment before the due date of 1159PM the Sunday ending the assigned week. Dates are clearly posted in BlackBoard.
For each chapter there are 3 folders and 2 assignments.
Getting Started -- . This information could be beneficial to learning in an on-line environment. The Getting Started activities will not count toward the Participation grade. The reading in this folder is not required.
Chapter Reading with Quick Checks -- This is a requirement. The built in activities in each chapter will constitute the Participation grade.
Study -- This folder contains Flashcards, Memory games, Crossword Puzzles, Beat the Clock game and a Chapter Homework. None of these activities are required, nor will the grades count toward Participation. However, it is suggested to use some of these resources for review prior to a major exam. (There is a grade posted in Cengage for the Chapter Homework. At this time, this score will not count toward the overall grade. Use of these activities as extra credit is a possible consideration.)
Assignments: Apply Yourself: Learning Lab for each chapter will count as 15% of the overall grade as Homework. Chapter Tests for each chapter will count as 20% of overall grade as chapter tests. There are 2 attempts allowed on these assignments with the best grade set as the one to be kept in the gradebook.
Recorded Lectures: Every attempt is being made to provide recorded lectures for each chapter. These are not required; however, students who are auditory learners my desire to listen to the lecture. Some of them are from previous classes and are as much as an hour long. Again, these lectures are not required; but are provided if desired.
In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

Since this is an on-line course, there are not many behavioral expectations.

.Students are expected to be aware of grades in both Cengage and BlackBoard in an attempt to catch errors.
Students are expected to complete all assignments in a timely manner. All assignments are due by 1159PM Sunday of the week. There is an allowance of Late Policy for 72 hours with a 15 point deduction. The Late Policy is extended for those weeks where 3 chapters are assigned.
Grading for the Introduction to Health Professions will be as follows:
15% Homework
25% Participation
20% Assignments
15% Exams
25% Final exam
The learning experience will be more effective if students attempt shorter frequent study sessions. It is recommended students log into this class at least twice a week, but preferred to work in this course 5 to 7 times per week.
There must be at least one assignment completed and submitted prior to 1159PM Sunday, January 23. If this expectation is not met, it will be recorded as not attending this class, and the student will be automatically dropped.
The 2 major exams and the Final will be taken in the Success Center on the West Campus. They are open Monday - Thursday from 8am - 5pm. Before showing up to tak an exam, it is recommended to check for computer availability by calling -- 806-356-3651.
There will be a Homework assignment (Apply Yourself: Learning Lab) and a Chapter test for each chapter.
