Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, not only in interaction with patients, but also with peers, faculty, and staff. Students represent the Department of Nursing and the nursing profession; thus, students assume responsibilities toward society. These responsibilities are delineated in the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses Practice Standards and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses, 2015. TESTING
Tests are computerized and will be taken in the nursing testing center and are multiple-choice questions. Cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed in the testing center. When entering the testing center do so quietly and respectfully, after the test you cannot linger in or near the testing center. Also, students should never discuss the test, test questions, or otherwise with each other. This is a violation of Amarillo College and is considered cheating.
MISSED EXAMS:
If an exam is missed, the student must schedule the exam with the instructor and it must be done within one week of the scheduled exam. Make-up tests may be essay/short answer questions. Make-up exams may result in a deduction of 10 points (this will be at the discretion of the instructor). Failure to notify the instructor in advance of missing an exam may result in a grade of 0 for that exam.
ASSESSMENT TECHNOLOGIES INSTITUTE ATI
ATI assessments will be done throughout the semester. ATI assessment content can be studied using ATI Content Mastery Series Review Module PN Maternal Newborn Nursing, along with assigned practice quizzes in ATI.
Each student is required to achieve a Level II or Level III score in order to have successfully mastered the content area. Students who score Level I or below Level I will remediate for two hours in ATI for the prescribed content.
Students who do not remediate as directed may receive an incomplete grade for the course.
ATI Grade Scale:
Levels are determined by ATI and are set according to each individual ATI assessment in comparison with the national mean. (Example: 67% on one test may equal level 2, and 67% on a different exam may equal level 1 on another) These levels are determined by Assessment Technology Institute (ATI)

REQUIRED LAB TIME
Students are expected to complete an additional 16 hours of lab in order to meet the course requirements. Instructor-mandated lab activities are incorporated into the curriculum and the class calendar.
For PrepU, you will be expected to meet a mastery level on assigned chapters. Please use the provided lab sheet to document the required time spent in PrepU/ATI and turn it in by the due date. Students are required to turn in the lab timesheet to complete this course.
If a student encounters problems with PrepU or ATI while using the software, they must call ATI or PrepU and talk with the helpdesk and get a trouble ticket number. Some problems can be fixed by using a laptop or tablet instead of a cell phone when working with these programs.
The student is responsible for emailing their instructor (before the due dates) the trouble ticket number and explaining the problem they are having when trying to complete the assignments.
TENTATIVE COURSE SCHEDULE
Students will receive a class calendar of events on the first day of class. The schedule is subject to change. Students are required to be in class, lab, or clinical 8 hours per day.
Tutoring is an organized learning experience in which one person serves as a teacher and a student is a learner. Tutors help students become more confident in their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills in the classroom, clinical setting, and on examinations.
Tutoring may include a one-to-one relationship between a tutor and one tutee or between a tutor and small groups of students who have similar learning needs. Small group tutoring sessions help students to learn from and support each other while being guided by a tutor.
WHEN SHOULD A STUDENT SEEK TUTORING?
The West Campus Tutoring Outreach Center is open to all nursing students. Any student may schedule an appointment at the center regardless of their academic progress in a course.
Students who do not achieve a minimum passing score of at least 75% on a unit and/or module exam are required to meet with the instructor and tutor prior to the next scheduled exam. The purpose of this requirement is to help students improve their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills and test-taking techniques.
The classroom instructor will issue a Required Tutoring Prescription to a student when they do not achieve a minimum score of at least 75% on a unit/or module exam via email or on paper. If on paper the original is maintained by the instructor and the duplicate (yellow copy) is given to the student. The tutor will sign the yellow copy when tutoring is completed and given to the student. The student will give this copy back to the instructor after completion.
If the prescription is sent via email, the student will use CHROME as your browser, log in to acconnect to access your email. If you were given a prescription, use the link provided in the email which takes you to this page: https://www.actx.edu/forms/prescription/ (or just use this email to go directly there).
Log in using your Amarillo College sign-in. Print out the prescription and bring it to the tutoring center for signature after requirements are met. This form will then be handed back to your instructor.

Students are to check BlackBoard Online for assignments, announcements, quizzes, and grades, powerpoints, and nursing articles and online DVD's. You are required to review the content before classes so you are familiar with the general subject matter before class. You will also access The Point for Prep-U and ATI at a separate website. Students should check ACs email and blackboard for announcements at least twice a day.
When contacting the Instructor via email please use the below format:
How to send a professional email: It is important when sending email communications to treat them as if you are handwritten correspondence.
You should open with the name of the person you are sending it to such as (Dear Mrs. D, Hello Mrs. Daniels, Mrs. Daniels). Then write the body of your email checking your spelling and punctuation. Finally, close the email with (Best, Thank you, Regards, Sincerely,) and your name.
Do not use ALL CAPS unless you are putting emphasis on a word. This is perceived as screaming at the receiver.
A one-sentence email correspondence sent from your phone is not professional now, nor in your future career. We will work together in this course to build your soft skills for communication for future employers and the healthcare field in general.
