Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) More detailed information is found in the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook

Student Clinical II (EMSP 2263) grades will be the same as that awarded in their Field II (EMSP 2267) course. As such, grading for both classes is maintained in the Blackboard course EMSP 2267.

Attendance

Regular attendance is necessary for successful completion of this course. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend all clincial shifts.

Students will establish their clinical/field internship schedules on Fisdap with the EMSP Clinical Coordinator well in advance of their first shift. Once the schedule is established, students must seek prior approval from the coordinator in order to reschedule a reserved shift. In the event conditions prevent prior approval, the coordinator must be notified the next business day following the absence, as well as the circumstances involved.

Clinical or field shift reschedules exceeding two shifts per semester shall be considered excessive and trigger the attendance policy procedures for subsequent absence numbers three, four, and/or five (as similarly outlined earlier in this document). Failure to correct absenteeism and/or rescheduling issues may result in an “F” for the course, and/or dismissal from the program.

Students must attend and complete ALL the internship number of shifts and locations by semester's end. Although other factors may influence internship final grades, failure to attend and complete all the required number and locations of shifts absolutely results in the following letter grades in both internship, semester courses:

Failure to complete all required shifts and/or Platinium requirements - F

0 rescheduled shifts - A
1 rescheduled shift - B
2 rescheduled shifts - C
4 or more rescheduled shifts - F

Other factors (such as, but not limited to: affective performance, clinical competence, complaints from internship sites, etc.), impact course grades. For example, missing 2 shifts and poor affective performance would result in an “F” for both courses. Refer to the EMSP Advanced Handbook and/or the Program Director for a complete explanation of requirements to pass.

Rescheduled shifts (if allowed) will be on the next available shift and likely NOT at a time/date convenient to the student. Therefore, give careful consideration prior to missing a shift.

Tardy

On time is defined as arrival for a scheduled shift at least fifteen minutes prior to its beginning. Tardiness shall be assessed at five minutes prior to the shifts beginning, and will count as an absence. However, students may continue attending a tardy shift at the discretion of site officials.

Calendar

  • Calendars are student specific.
  • Schedules available on Platinum.
  • It is the student's responsibility to request to add, drop or trade shifts as needed to complete the requirements of the course.

Failure to complete all clinical requirements will result in a grade of "F" for the course

Refer to the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook (provided in class) for complete, detailed explanations. Immediately bring questions/concerns to your instructor.

Additional Information

  • AC online is the fastest/easiest way to communicate with a large group of people. Each student should become familiar with how to log-on and use the AC Online web portal. Grades and important class information will be posted, along with campus announcements, events, and email

  • Also, students are not automatically dropped from their class roster as a result of nonattendance. It is therefore the responsibility of the student to officially drop or withdraw from a course through the registrar's office. Failure to officially withdraw may result in the student receiving a grade of "F" in the course.

NOTE: The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule §4.10.

Extremely Important!

Failure of any one (1) of the Capstone semester courses/classes constitutes failure of ALL Capstone semester courses/classes, regardless of your letter grade in the other courses/classes. Refer to the EMSP Advanced Handbook’s Student Responsibilities sections, and the section titled: Capstone Semester (Your Final Semester and how to avoid an “F” in multiple classes).

See your instructor immediately for questions, concerns, and clarification if you do not FULLY understand this statement.

A student’s lack of FULLY understanding this requirement does NOT shelter them from its enforcement!
