Assignment Descriptions

As noted in the Syllabus and on the Start Here page, you will have 5 Exams, 5 Discussions outside of REVEL, weekly Chapter readings and REVEL Assignments, and a Common Assessment (Term Paper). I will use grades from these categories to calculate your overall grade for the course.

See Descriptions of each category below:

  1. Chapter Assignments in REVEL include reading, study, and mastery material.
    1. The course is divided into 5 units.
    2. Each unit contains 3 or 4 Chapter Assignments.
    3. Each Chapter Assignment includes several sections. Each section has a 3 to 5 question quiz, and each chapter includes a chapter quiz and shared writing assignment.
    4. Each Chapter Assignment will be given on the Tuesday of the week and will be due the following Monday, so you will have at least 6 days to complete them.
    5. If you complete an assignment early, you may "read ahead," and may also complete Chapter Assignments ahead of schedule. This is not required, but is an option for you.
    6. The average of all Chapter Assignments is worth 25% of your overall grade.
  2. Discussions questions appear under the Discussions tab. There is an introductory discussion that you will complete during the first week of class, and 5 additional questions throughout the semester.
    1. Respond to all 5 of these, and comment on at least 2 of your classmates' responses for each discussion question.
    2. Discussion Questions correspond with material in the reading assignments but are separate from the Chapter Assignment in REVEL.
    3. Find due dates on the Assignment Dates page.
    4. I will drop your lowest Discussions grade, and calculate the average score from the remaining Discussions. Discussions are worth 25% of your overall grade.
  3. The Common Assessment (Term Paper) will be assigned later in the semester; you will have about 4 weeks to complete it.
    1. I will include detailed instructions when I publish the assignment.
    2. The Common Assessment (Term Paper) is worth 10% of your total grade.
  4. Exams: You will take 5 during this course.
    1. Exams are based on the readings and assignments, and cover the material between exams. For example, your first exam includes all materials provided between the start of the course and the day the exam opens. The second exam covers all materials between the first exam and the second exam.
    2. The Final Exam is the last of the course. It includes only the material provided between the previous exam and the Final Exam.
    3. I will drop your lowest exam score and average your 4 highest scores. The resulting average is worth 40% of your grade.
