Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) 1. MUSIC: All music will be provided by either Amarillo College or the Amarillo Symphony. You will be held financially responsible for lost or damaged music.

2. PERFORMANCE DRESS: Women will wear conservative long black dresses with black shoes. Men will wear black tuxedos with black socks and shoes. Amarillo College has some tuxes available for loan.  See Concert Etiquette Form (distributed in rehearsal) for full requirements.  

3. PERFORMANCE FOLDER: All members will be lent a performance folder, which must be returned immediately after performance.  You will be held financially responsible for a lost or damaged folder.

4.  PENCIL:  Should be brought to every rehearsal.

Student Performance

***This syllabus is also used for MUEN-2143 and MUSIC-1020

The goal of this course is to have fun experiencing the expressive possibilities of singing significant choral literature, and to share this experience with each other and our audience. In the course of the semester, the student will:

1. Learn vocal fundamentals and improved their singing through increasing vocal flexibility.

2. Learn the listening skills required for choral blend and balance.

3. Increase their knowledge of choral literature and style.

4. Meet new people and experienced a bond of friendship with each other through music.

5. Perform significant choral/orchestral works at a professional level.

Repertoire includes selections from all periods and generally consists of significant choral/orchestral works.  Advanced choral literature is stressed.  The ensemble meets regularly on Monday evenings and also at specially scheduled times during performance weeks.  Amarillo Master Chorale is a non-profit, incorporated community chorus affiliated with Amarillo College.

Expected Student Behavior

a. Have a positive attitude, and be encouraging to others.

b. Participate in all dress rehearsals and concerts/performances, and make every effort to attend all Monday evening rehearsals.

c. Refrain from talking during rehearsal, unless you have a musical question.

d. Pay attention to instruction given to other voice parts that may apply to your part.

e. Bring a pencil to every rehearsal to mark your music with appropriate directions.

f. Be willing to work as a team to fulfill musical goals.

g. Make every effort to come to rehearsal on time.

An audition is required as a prerequisite of this class.  Ensemble members may need to devote time outside of class to ensure their respective parts are learned.

Grading Criteria

Final Grade is based on the following scale:

A= 90-100%

B= 80-89%

C= 70-79%

D= 60-69%

F= Below 60%

Grading is based on attendance and preparation for rehearsals during class.

Attendance

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. In addition:

1. You are expected to attend every rehearsal. If you are not able to attend a rehearsal, please contact your section leader as early as possible before the conflict.

2.You are expected to participate in all concerts and dress rehearsals. Please contact the instructor well in advance of concert week if you have a scheduling conflict.

Calendar

AMC will meet for rehearsal every night at AC Music Building choir room 102 and/or CHT, 7PM, unless otherwise noted to you.  A more detailed calendar, subject to change, will be distributed in rehearsals.
