Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

MATH-1332-002 Contemporary Mathematics
Prerequisite:Scores on a state-approved test indicating college-level math skills Corequisite: MATH 0332
Intended for Non STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors. Topics include introductory treatments of sets and logic, financial mathematics, probability and statistics with appropriate applications. Number sense, proportional reasoning, estimation, technology, and communication should be embedded throughout the course. Additional topics may be covered.

Calculators are available to check out on the 4th floor of Ware Student Commons. Students must show their schedule and that they are registered for a class that requires a graphing calculator. The calculator must be returned at the end of the semester or the student will be required to replace the calculator with a new TI-84.
Students need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection to complete online homework assignments and access to a printer to print course materials.

Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to be ON TIME, PREPARED and PARTICIPATE DURING CLASS in a positive manner. Students are expected to read the syllabus and to sign and turn in a course contract before the first exam can be taken by the student. Disruptive behavior includes, but is not limited to the following: the use of cellular phones, texting, making offensive remarks, talking, use of personal music systems, doing homework or other personal projects during class time, or engaging in any other form of distraction. For a full discussion of appropriate behavior and student responsibilities, please refer to the student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook Http://sites.actx.edu/catalog/notices/. Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or Student Rights & Responsibilities will be subject to disciplinary action.
Food/Drink: It is the policy of the Mathematics & Engineering Department that food and drink be allowed in the classroom setting, at the instructor's discretion. Food and drink are not allowed in the computer labs or in classrooms when laptop computers are in use by the student.
Phones/Pagers: It is the policy of the Mathematics, Engineering, Drafting, & Data Science Department that cell phones and pagers must be turned off or in silent mode in the classrooms and the computer labs.
Videos/Photos: Students must receive instructor consent before taking pictures or videos of the instructor's work or lessons.
Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism: Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student's paper or using any unauthorized sources of information while taking an exam or quiz. On the first day of class, you will be required to sign and date a Course Contract. Included in the contract is the following statement. "I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test I will receive an automatic "F" in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes the use of cell phone calculators, the illegal use of books, notes, cell phones, and copying. Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students to cheat on a test." You will not be allowed to take your tests until this contract is signed and on file in your instructor's office. Please note: NO CELL PHONES in the Testing Room. If we see your cell phone out AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON, while in the testing room, YOU WILL RECEIVE an "F" for the course!
Attendance: Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to logon daily to complete assignments and notes as outlined on the calendar.
Homework: Daily homework will be completed online using MyMathLab and will be graded automatically. Due dates will be posted on the My Math Lab website as well as on your calendar. Please note that NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. At the end of the course, the two lowest homework grades will be dropped.
Test Reviews: Reviews will be assigned before each major exam. The chapter exams will be completed on MyMathLab. The midterm and final exam reviews must be turned into the testing center before being allowed to complete the exam. The chapter exam reviews are found on MyMathLab. The reviews for the midterm and final are found under "Midterm and Final Exam Reviews" in Blackboard.
Exams: Three chapter exams (on MyMathLab), a midterm ( in testing center), and comprehensive final exam (in testing center) will be given throughout the course. No late exams will be given, no matter the reason. If you know in advance that you will be gone during the assigned exam dates, you MUST make arrangements with your instructor to take the exam EARLY. At the end of the semester, your final exam grade can replace your lowest chapter exam grade if it is higher. It CAN NOT replace your midterm.
If you score below a 70 on an exam, you will be required to spend at least one hour receiving help in the Academic Success Center-Math (Math Outreach Center) or through a Virtual Online Tutoring session before you will be allowed to take the next exam. Documentation of your time spent in the Academic Success Center - Math (Math Outreach Center) or the Virtual Online Tutoring session must be given to your instructor through online notification before you will be allowed to take your next exam.
Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive and must be completed by the assigned due date.

Remember that the deadline for withdrawing from this class is July 20, 2022.
Students now have to visit with the instructor and complete a drop request form before being allowed to withdraw from a course. It is the student's responsibility to obtain additional signatures and turn the form into the registrar once the instructor has signed it. Deadline for letting me know you want to drop is July 19th. If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 due to missed assignments and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course. Note: Late drops will NOT be given under any circumstance.
