Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisites

Prerequisite: Open to any licensed physician, LVN, RN, paramedic, AEMT, or EMT.

Course Description

Theory and skills necessary for the management of pre-hospital trauma emergencies as specified by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) guidelines.

Student Performance

At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each text, to effectively assess and manage prehospital trauma patients. It is desired that course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student’s final grade is not less than a grade of “C” as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than “C” will result in failure of the course.

Expected Student Behavior

Students will be required to abide by the Student Code of Conduct, which can be accessed in the Student's Rights and Responsibilities link above.

Use of electronic devices for purposes other than specified by the instructor as education related is prohibited. Please put all phones on silent mode during class time.

Grading Criteria

Assignment Percentages of Grade

  • Skill Evaluation       =   15% of final Average
  • Final Exam              =  85% of final average

 

Grading Scale:

  • A = 90% and up
  • B =80% to 89.9 %
  • C = 70% to 79.9%
  • F =Below 70%

 

 

 

Attendance

100% attendance is necessary for successful completion of this course due to the short duration of the course.

Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.

Additional Information

  • Grades and important class information will be posted, along with campus announcements, events, and email.
  • Regular use of the resources found on AC online has proven to improve the success rate of course completion .

 

 

  • Also, students are not automatically dropped from their class roster as a result of nonattendance. It is therefore the responsibility of the student to officially drop or withdraw from a course through the registrar's office. Failure to officially withdraw may result in the student receiving a grade of "F" in the course. 

NOTE: The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education.
