Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisites

Prerequisite: Instructor approval. Must be taken during last semester.

Course Description

The completion of Credentialing Achievement Records (CARs) and successful completion of National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentialing exams as dictated by program director.

Since this a Credentialing class it is left up to students as to the reference material they wish to use.
As Instructor I would suggest using the relevant Text Books and Handouts, provided in previous classes.

End-of-Course Outcomes: During the last semester of a student's enrollment in a program, in order to verify entry-level workplace competencies; students shall achieve a minimum of one industry recognized credential. or complete an external learning experience, or complete a capstone experience which would include three components as described in the following descriptions. 1. A General comprehensive written exam. 2. A Specific exam to require research, design, and application of , code requirements, equipment application, or production of a product. 3. A Practical exam to allow field application of safety, skills, following instructions, equipment care and usage, calculations, and stewardship.

Expected Student Behavior

 

Safety Policy and PPE
Safety is everyone's job,and it starts before you enter the shop area. A machine shop has rotating machinery,high voltage electrical equipment,hot metal,sharp metal and chemicals,all of which can harm or even kill you. That is why the rules described below are needed.
Rule#1. Only Safety glasses' with side shields, that meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1 spec will be allowed.
Rule#2. Only long pants are allowed.
Rule#3. Only short sleeved close fitting Tee-shirts or long sleeved shirts rolled up past the elbow are allowed
Rule#4. No open toed shoes are allowed,students should wear work boots or work shoes.
Rule#5. Hair over shoulder length needs to be secured safely with a hat, cap or hairnet.
Rule#6. No necklaces, bracelets, dangling earrings, rings or watches are to be worn in shop.
Rule#7. No horseplay of any type will be tolerated.
Rule#8. Any vandalism or theft will not be tolerated.
Rule#9. Any student under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Rule#10.No food or drink in shop.
Failure to comply with rules #1-#6 will result in the following disciplinary actions.
First offense. The student will receive a verbal reprimand from instructor and, be withdrawn from the class for that period receiving no grade for that day.
Second offense. The student will receive a written reprimand from instructor, removed from the class for two class periods reviving no points for either day. Any quizzes or test that occur during those classes cannot be made up and will counted as zero points.
Third offense. The student will be suspended from the class for the remainder of the semester and receive a FAILING grade for that class.
Failure to comply with rules #7-#9 will result in the student being immediately  suspended from the class for the remainder of the semester and receiving a FAILING grade for that class.

Grading Criteria

Course Evaluations:

NIMS Credentialing Projects are completely self student driven, the Instructor will only intervene if there is a SAFETY RISK, or if there is a chance of DAMAGING EQUIPMENT. Each student is required to use their own hand, measuring, and set-up tools to perform all operations. Each student is required to do their own work, you may ask for advice from a classmate; but under no circumstances is a classmate to do your work. If such a instance arises all parties involved will receive a FAILING GRADE FOR THE CLASS.
Final (Overall) Grade Policy:
The final overall grade will be computed by adding the points earned as follows:

1) Sixteen Daily Rubrics 5 % of final grade.

2) One NIMS Credentialing Project 75% of final grade. Must Pass Internal Inspection.

3) One Final Exam or NIMS credentialing exam 20% of final grade.

100.00% – 90.00% = A
89.99% - 80.00%   =  B
79.99% - 70.00%    = C
69.99% - 60.00%    = D
59.99% - 0.00%      = F

Attendance

  

 Attendance in class and lab participation is regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning. Attendance and participation are graded on the Daily Rubric.
