Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) FIRS-1319-001 Firefighter Certification IV

Prerequisites

Course Description

A study of equipment, tactics and procedures used in forcible entry, ventilation, salvage and overhaul. An in-depth study and practice of simulated emergency operations and hands-on live fire training exercises; incident command procedures; and combined operations using proper extinguishing methods. Emphasis on safety. This capstone class prepares the student to take the TCFP basic firefighting examination and become a certifiable firefighter. One in a series of courses in basic preparation for a new firefighter. Should be taken in conjunction with Firefighter Certification I, II and III to satisfy the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) curriculum for Basic Structural Fire Suppression, Course #100.

Supplies

This course requires the student to have:

Protective Personal Equipment that meets or exceeds (National Fire Protection Association) NFPA 1971 standards.  Information concerning sizing and rental of PPE is provided prior to classes beginning. 

Students are required to wear a uniform as defined in the Amarillo College Regional Fire Academy Rules and Regulations.

Acess to laptop/desktop/tablet and internet connection to be able to complete course work.

Week 17-18 will be at the ACFA facility and will cover all TCFP skills work, TCFP State skills tesitng and written exam.

Code of Conduct

You are entering into a brotherhood (sisterhood) of millions of firefighters across the world.  Local, national, and international firefighters have camaraderie second to none.  Because of trust, honor, courage, and loyalty, this group of men and women have taken on the roles of leadership and heroes in our communities.  In any type of emergency, firefighters are there to help those in need.

 

Amarillo College has the responsibility to provide you with the education, training and “hands on” practice to become a certified firefighter.  The instruction, equipment, facilities and apparatus are provided for your use.  Studying, practicing and learning are required by you.

 

As a participating cadet in the fire academy, you will be expected to act, perform and train in a professional manner.  The following rules and guidelines are to be followed by everyone.

 

Attendance:

Students are expected to be in class for satisfactory achievement.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.  Simply stated: DO NOT MISS CLASS.   

 

Uniform:

You are expected to reflect the dignity, pride and respectfulness of the fire service.  As a representative of Amarillo College’s Regional  Fire  Academy you shall wear your uniform while in the classroom and on the training field.  The uniform will consist of black shoes/boots and belt, dark socks, navy blue long pants and either of the two approved navy blue academy shirts.

There will be no caps, hats, beanies, or hoods allowed to be worn in the classroom.

Your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be worn when indicated by the instructor in charge during any training field exercises.  It is your responsibility to keep your equipment in good shape and clean.

It is not recommended that you wear your uniform or gear anywhere except in class or to and from class

 

Grades:

During your course of learning, you will have exams, assignments, mid-term/final exam weekly discussions and will be graded as follows:

  1. A = 90-100
  2. B = 80-90
  3. C = 75-80
  4. F = <75

There will be a comprehensive mid-term and final exam consisting of all subjects. 

Conduct: Refer to the ACFA Rules and REgulations.

Electronic Devices: No electronic devices, including phones, will be used during class or on the training field.  All visual slides and materials are the property of the instructor and may be copyright protected, hence no photocopy is allowed.

 

Grievances:

Any student who feels that there is a conflict with a course instructor should first make every effort to resolve that matter with the instructor.  If you are unable to resolve differences then you should seek resolution from the immediate supervisor of the instructor or the course coordinator.
