Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.)  Students will need access to a computer and the internet.

Student Performance

  • Relate the sequence of cognitive development to the acquisition of math and science concepts

  • Describe the scientific process and its application to the early childhood indoor and outdoor learning environments

  • Develop strategies which promote thinking and problem-solving skills in children

  • Utilize observation and assessment as a basis for planning discovery experiences for the individual child

  • Create, evaluate, and select developmentally appropriate materials, equipment, and environments to support the attainment of math and science concepts and skills.

Students will demonstrate the knowledge gained in the course every week.

  • 12 exams (the scores will be averaged for a final score)

Tests may consist of multiple choice, short answer, and/or matching.  All exams will be taken online.

Lesson Execution

  • Plan a developmentally appropriate lesson plan the incorporates creative math or science for the developmental growth of children.  Include lesson plan and materials for the activity with evidence that you excuted the lesson

Attendance

This class is online for 8 weeks.  The class opens on Monday, March 20, and the first class is Monday, March 20th.

  • Log in frequently.  Complete and submit assignments and exams by the due date.
  • Complete the notes assigned chapters in the book.
  • Satisfactorily complete exams with 70% mastery or above.
  • The Introduction activity will verify your course participation for the Census Roster.  It must be completed by March 28th, or you may be dropped from the class.
  • Be a team player: dependable, hard working, and helpful.

  • If for some reason, you are unable to complete the course, be sure to notify the Instructor before May 2nd, 2023, which is the last day to drop a course.
  • Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangement in order to meet the course requirements should contact Accessibility Services at 371-5436 as soon as possible.
  • This is a online class.  Read and know the course syllabus.  The syllabus is the contract for the class.  You will complete the course exams online.

  • Read the assigned chapters and view any media assigned.
  • Make-up assignments/exams are at the instructor's discretion. Plan ahead so late work will not be a concern.
