Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) For more information on Drop and Withdrawal Policies, please visit the Registrar's Office Web site.

Grading Criteria

Category

Weight
Online MyMathLab HW (Drop 2) 10%
Written Lab Assignments (Drop 2) 10%
Major Exams (3, no drops) 60%
Comprehensive Final Exam 20%

Online Homework:  After each section covered in class, students will complete a corresponding homework assignment on MyMathLab.  Help buttons will be available for each problem in MyMathLab, and you may rework problems multiple times until you get the correct answer.  Each assignment will be due at the beginning of the next class meeting at 7:30AM.   These due dates are posted on the class schedule in Blackboard and also on the MyMathLab website, and no late homework will be accepted. Though this homework will be submitted online, I strongly recommend that you keep an organized log of written work in your notebook to better learn the process of solving problems.

Lab Worksheets:  Students will be required to print lab worksheets from Blackboard on a weekly basis and bring them to class.  During lab time, students will discuss and present solutions to various problems.  Attendance in lab is mandatory!  Written assignments will be due at the beginning of the next class meeting at 7:30AM.  These due dates are also posted on the weekly schedule in Blackboard.  10 points per class day will be deducted from labs submitted late.

Exams:  Three (3) major exams will be given outside of class in the Math Testing Lab.  Exams must be taken during the time frame provided on the schedule, and no late exams will be accepted.

Final Exam:  A comprehensive final exam will be given on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in class from 7:30-9:50AM.  If the final exam grade is higher than the lowest major exam grade, the final exam will replace that lowest grade and also count for the final exam grade.

Mandatory Tutoring:  If your average falls below a 75 after any major exam, you will be required to correct your exam in the Math Academic Success Center and submit your corrections to me before the next exam.  A tutor's signature on your corrections will be required.  Tutoring may be completed on campus in or remotely by joining https://zoom.us/j/541139851.  Use the Meeting ID:  541 139 851.

Extra Credit: Extra credit will not be given.

Attendance

Daily attendance is required in both lecture and lab.

If you miss lecture, you can keep up with class by reading the corresponding section in the textbook.

If you miss lab, you can make up missed time in the Math Academic Success Center.  A tutor's signature on your lab will be required for you to submit it at the next class meeting. To document your time, be sure to scan in and out using your student ID.

Note that the last day to drop is Tuesday, November 21.  Submit this form to me by 12PM (noon) in order to process your drop in time.  Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average falls below a 60.
