Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Although you have outside buying options available, speak with your instructor before buying from a source other than the AC Bookstore. We want to ensure you have the correct product. The book is an online book and required for this course. 

The physical textbook is NOT required. If you do purchase from an outside vendor, make sure and get the 10th edition.

  4. CSS Configuration:

    • Configure color and text attributes using CSS for enhanced web presentation.
  5. Visual Elements Integration:

    • Incorporate visual elements and graphics seamlessly into web design projects.

    • Develop websites utilizing recommended design practices and ensuring accessibility for diverse users.
  7. Advanced CSS Techniques:

    • Understand and implement CSS techniques for positioning, floating page elements, and creating two-column and three-column layouts.
  8. CSS3 Features Utilization:

    • Work with CSS sprites, configure CSS for print, implement CSS media queries, and utilize the CSS3 Flexible Box Layout Module.
  9. Mobile Web Design:

    • Design web pages optimized for mobile devices to ensure responsiveness and user experience.
  10. Tables and Forms Implementation:

    • Create and manage tables and user-input forms effectively within web content.
  11. Media and Interactivity Integration:

    • Add media elements such as HTML5 video and audio, CSS Image Galleries, and JavaScript interactivity to web pages.
  12. E-commerce Considerations:

    • Address e-commerce security and order processing requirements for web-based transactions.
  13. Site Promotion Strategies:

    • Develop strategies for site promotion from the developer's perspective, incorporating search engine optimization (SEO) techniques.
  14. Practical Application:

    • Demonstrate proficiency by developing a three-page website and successfully publishing it to a web server.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College.
 
The faculty of the CIS Department reserves the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test by reproducing any specific section or all of the test in question. Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of "F" in this course and possible further disciplinary action.

Final grades will be assigned as indicated below.

EVALUATION:
Your grade for the course is based on the following:
Chapter Website Case Study Assignments:     40%    (drop the lowest score)
Semester Project:                                             60%    
All course work is provided for each student at the beginning of the semester, along with due dates. It is your responsibility to complete each assignment on the scheduled dates.

Chapter Website Case Study Assignments:  The Chapter Website Case Study Assignments will be the Fish Creek Animal Clinic Case Study at the end of each chapter. These can be found in the Summary section for each appropriate chapter. These Website Case Study Assignments will be vital for you to complete your Semester Project. They start in Week 2 and build each week. It is critical that you not skip your weekly Chapter Website Case Study Assignments. They are due each Sunday at 10:00 PM and the solution image files will be opened each Sunday at 11:30PM. It is your responsibility to correct your code each week before starting the next Case Study Assignment. You will also have a Casita: Fix Broken Website assignment that is included in this category. You will download and extract the files to your computer. To get to the instructions, you will open the index.html file in a browser.

Semester Project: Your project is worth 60% of your semester grade. The topic of your web site must be approved by your instructor.

Purpose: To design, develop, and publish a web site using recommended design practices.

Graded: Your project will be broken down into one Reflection Assignment, four Phases, and one Final Phase. Each Phase is worth the following point values:

  • Phase 1:           30 Possible Points
  • Phase 2:           70 Possible Points
    • Phase 2.1         40 Possible Points
    • Phase 2.2         15 Possible Points
    • Phase 2.3         15 Possible Points
  • Phase 3:           100 Possible Points
  • Phase 4             100 Possible Points
  • Final Phase       100 Possible Points     

The Reflection Assignment is worth 100 points.

This will be worth 5-100’s to be averaged and weighted at 60% of your final grade.

Mandatory Tutoring: If you fail the Chapter 3 Website Case Study, you will be required to attend mandatory tutoring before allowing to continue your work with the Case Study or Semester Project.

Attendance

  • All Week 1 assignments must be completed by the end of Week 1 in order to be considered Present in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.
  •  Check your email daily.  The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email issued to each AC student. Your instructor will communicate important course updates, guidance, and hints via email.
  •  Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time.  There is a "no late work" policy, except in extreme circumstances.
  •  Attendance for seated classes will be taken during each class period. See the attendance policy in the Grading Criteria section. Attendance for online classes will be monitored by access log-in dates recorded in Blackboard and completing required assignments.  Excessive absence or lack of participation may result in failure of the course.
  •  Students should plan on spending a minimum of 10-12 hours per week on this course. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity.
  •  Due to the nature of this course and the volume of work required to master this material, students are rarely successful when attempts are made to complete work during one or two days each week. Please schedule your time, so that you can devote the appropriate energy and effort to achieve success in this course.

  • Open Computer Labs: The Business Systems and Emerging Technology Department hosts an open computer lab on the 2nd Floor of the Byrd Business Building. Labs are open 7 days a week.
