Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. At the conclusion of our 8-week course, students can expect to achieve a strong beginner-level understanding of the Swift programming language and development for iOS devices. This includes a deeper familiarity with protocols, delegates, data types, property observers, polymorphism, auto-layout, table layout, initializers, and other intermediate topics.
This is a practical class. You will work in Xcode to develop code and solve problem sets throughout the entirety of the semester.

Grade Calculations
Course grades will be assigned based upon the following criteria:
Grades scored between
89.5% and 100% = A
79.5% and less than 89.5% = B
69.5% and less than 79.5% = C
59.5% and less than 69.5% = D
0% and less than 59.5% = F
Student evaluation is based upon the following categories and weights:
Zoom Sessions / In-Class Attendance - 5%
Coding Assignments - 30%
Quizzes - 20%
Mini-Projects - 15%
Midterm Exam - 15%
Final Exam - 15%
Late Work Policy
Late work must be submitted no later than 5 days after the due date. All late work will receive a 10% grade penalty. For example, if on-time work would have earned a grade of 88, the 10% penalty will result in a reported grade of 79.2 [88 - (88 * 10%)]
Mandatory Tutoring Policy
Any time a student's overall course grade drops below a 70, or two or more assignments have not been completed by the due date, that student is required to attend a 1-hour tutoring session. This session can be scheduled directly with the instructor or with AC's Tutoring Center.
All Week 1 assignments must be completed by Tuesday, 1/23 @ 10:30 pm, in order to be considered PRESENT in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.
Check your email, Blackboard Messages, and Remind texting app daily. The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email address issued to each AC student. Remind is a texting app that provides another quick communication path with your instructor. Your instructor will communicate important course updates, guidance, and hints via email and Remind.
Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time. The more effort you put into keeping on top of the assignments, the more you will learn, the more you will enjoy the course, and the more likely the workload will not feel burdensome.
Our course is presented in a "technology-supported environment." Your instructor will be available in 210 Byrd Business Bldg during the scheduled class time (Tuesdays/Thursdays 10:30 am - 11:45 am). Students will "attend" class either by attending in person or joining the classroom via Zoom. Class meeting times provide a regular check-in between students and the instructor, as well as an opportunity to introduce and review course materials.
Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period. If you arrive late, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have been counted as present--before you leave the classroom that day.
Students should plan on spending a minimum of 6-10 hours per week on this course--outside of the classroom. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity.
