Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Students will need a graphing calculator for this course. The recommended calculator is a Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus. Other forms of Texas Instruments or Casio graphing calculators will be permitted at the instructors discretion. Note that no TI-89s or TI-Nspires will be permitted. Students need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection to complete online homework assignments, watch lecture note videos, and access to a printer to produce class notes and reviews.

Class Days: We will meet in person Monday and Wednesday on the Hereford campus of Amarillo College.
Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to be ON TIME and PREPARED for class daily. Students should participate in class in a positive manner. Using foul language in emails or discussions will not be tolerated and may result in possible removal from the course. You are expected to express yourself with courtesy and consideration at all times. Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or Student Rights & Responsibilities will be subject to disciplinary action.
Food/Drink: It is the policy of the Mathematics & Engineering Department that food and drink be allowed in the classroom setting, at the instructor’s discretion. Food and drink are not allowed in the computer labs or in classrooms when laptop computers are in use by the student.
Phones/Pagers: It is the policy of the Mathematics & Engineering Department that cell phones and pagers must be turned off or in silent mode in the classrooms and the computer labs.
Guests/Children: It is the policy of the Mathematics & Engineering Department that only students enrolled in this course attend this course.
Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism: Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College. Students that cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test will receive an automatic “F” in the course. This grade will go on your permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, the illegal use of books, notes, cell phones, copying or leaving the Math Testing Center with a test or questions from a test. Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students to cheat on a test regardless of the testing venue.
Online Homework: All homework will be completed online using the MyMathLab website. Help buttons will be available for each problem in MyMathLab, and you may rework problems multiple times until you get the correct answer. Due dates will be posted on the calendar in Blackboard and on the MyMathLab website. Though homework will be submitted online, I strongly recommend that you keep an organized log of written work to accompany each homework assignment to better learn the process of solving problems and to study/ prepare for exams.
Exam Reviews: Reviews will be assigned before each major exam and will be turned in to the Math Testing Center prior to taking each exam. Reviews will be graded on a completion basis. Students will get credit for each problem done in pencil and completed with work shown and will receive no credit for those left undone, those with no work shown, or not completed according to the stated directions. Students will not be allowed to take an exam without first turning in a exam review including all necessary work. Late reviews will not be accepted after the exam due date.
Exams: Four exams will be given and completed in the Testing Center outside of class time. No late exams will be given, no matter the reason. The Testing Center rules are included at the end of the syllabus. Students must show an Amarillo College ID and turn in an exam review before testing. If you know in advance that you will be gone during the assigned exam dates, you MUST make arrangements with your instructor to take the exam early in the Testing Center.
Final Exam: There will be a final comprehensive final. It will include all 5 units that will be covered in this course. It will be given and completed during class time on Wednesday, March 6th. No late exams will be given. Your final can replace a unit exam grade if it is higher.
Video Notes: Half of the notes will be watched outside of class. The notes that you are required to watch will be checked for completion at the beginning of class.

Tutoring Policy: If your overall grade drops below a 75, you will be required to attend 1 hour of tutoring in the Hereford Tutoring Center.
Grading Policy: Your grade (90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, less than 60 F) will be determined using the following weights:

Attendance: Attendance will be taken every day using the Watermark app. You are allowed to miss one day without penalty.
The deadline to drop this course is February 27th. To complete the drop process, you must submit your drop form to me for my signature by February 27th by 12:00 pm. If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 due to missed assignments and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.
Note: Late drops will NOT be given under any circumstance.
