Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) In order for the student to get the most out of their experience in trumpet lessons, regularly scheduled individual practice is necessary. The amount of practice time and effort is the responsibility of the student. It is advised to practice daily for at least 15-30 minutes as a non-major trumpet student.
Students should seek out opportunities to listen to live and recorded professional trumpet players to further develop their concept of sound and what it is to play the trumpet.
The student is expected to be on time to lessons as well as warmed up and ready to play before the lesson. If the student is unable to be at their lesson or is running late for any reason, the student should contact the instructor in as timely a manner as possible before the lesson (when possible). It is at the discretion of the instructor whether the missed lesson is excused and whether the lesson will be made up at a later date. Communication is important!
Students should refrain from using cell phones during lessons, except in emergencies.
Keeping a practice journal can be very useful for tracking progress and documenting strategies and repertoire assignments. This is strongly encouraged.
Each week's lesson will be graded, based upon attendance and student individual progress.
A=90-100%
B=80-89%
C=70-79%
D=60-69%
F=Below 60%
*Grading should not be a concern so long as the students attend lessons and give a reasonable effort. This course is meant to be a fun and engaging way of exploring trumpet playing at the student's pace.
Students should be on time to their lessons and communicate ahead of time, when possible, if the student is running late or unable to attend.
The student will have weekly one-hour lessons. This time and location is assigned on an individual basis.
