Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Clinical Conduct Policy:
All students will be required to adhere to the conduct and dress policies of each institution where clinical skills are acquired. Conduct and dress policy decisions will be addressed by clinical facility personnel and the Amarillo College EMSP Program Director and instructors.
Personal Hygiene Policy:
The student is expected to present a professional image at all times. To satisfactorily accomplish this, care must be given to personal hygiene. In an effort to promote cleanliness and professionalism, all students will adhere to the following guidelines:
The clinical grade will be determined by completeness of the clinical packet requirements and by attendance, skill proficiency, and student attitude in interacting with other healthcare professionals, peers, patients and family members of patients. The clinical (EMSP 1163) grade will not exceed the classroom (EMSP 1501) grade.
A student is allowed one excused absence from clinical during the course. The absence will be made up prior to the conclusion of the course. There is a zero tolerance for absences beyond one excused absence. A grade reduction of 10% off the final grade will be taken for each absence over the one excused absence. If a student has three absences beyond the one excused, the student will be advised to withdraw or receive an "F" for the final course grade. Exceptions to the policy will be at the discretion of the course instructor and the EMSP Program Director.
Students will choose their clinical schedule using the Clinical Scheduling Software discussed in class.

Occupational Need and Target Population for the Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) Course:
The EMT-B clinical course is a course designed to prepare the student for the skill examination processes that lead to certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT-Basic and with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an EMT-Basic (EMT-B). Either or both of the certifications are the minimum requirements for entry into the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Certified or licensed EMS providers are gainfully employed by ambulance services, hospitals and various primary and tertiary healthcare facilities. Many EMS providers serve as volunteers to provide EMS care in their local communities.

Malpractice Insurance:
Students may be held personally responsible for acts of negligence while in the clinical setting and judgments may be made against them in a court of law. It is a requirement of this program that each student purchase malpractice insurance before reporting to the clinical setting. The cost of blanket coverage for all students is included in the enrollment fees.
