Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Operation of drilling machines, milling machines, lathes and power saws. Select and use appropriate precision measuring tools.

Student Performance

 The student wil be able to perform basic fundemental machining operations using, basic machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, drill press, power saw and bench grinder. The student will demonstrate a knowledge of machine tool terminology, theory, math, part layout and bench work using common measuring tools and shop formulas. Students will apply shop safety, housekeeping and preventative maintenance in their daily shop work.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to have the specified tool-kit for this class, no later than the second class session. Students are required to take notes during class, these notes may be used during test
 
Safety Policy, PPE and attendance.
Safety is everyone's job,and it starts before you enter the shop area. A machine shop has rotating machinery,high voltage electrical equipment,hot metal,sharp metal and chemicals,all of which can harm or even kill you.Professionlism is another habit that all of us must excell at. That is why the rules described below are needed.
Rule#1. All students are required to have signed the attendance sheet and be setting at table at the start of class.
Rule#2. No headgear of any type are allowed in classroom, hats or caps may be worn in lab.
Rule#3. Break time will be set by instructor
Rule#4. Instructor will set break time for class. When break is over all students must be back at work assignments.
Rule#5. All students will participate in clean up.
Rule#6. All students will respect other student and instructors.
Rule#7. No food or drink in shop.
Rule#8. If you make a mess you clean it up.
Rule#9. Only College approved short sleeved or long sleeved shirts rolled up past the elbow are allowed in both the classroom and lab. These shirts must be buttoned and tucked into pants.
Rule#10. Students will have all required tools and classroom materials each day class meets.
Rule#11. No tobacco products of any type will be used in classroom or lab.
Rule#12. Only Safety glasses' with side shields, that meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1 spec will be allowed.
Rule#13. Only long pants are allowed. No baggy pants,pants that allow body parts to be exposed, or torn pants.
Rule#14. Only College approved short sleeved or long sleeved shirts rolled up past the elbow are allowed in both the classroom and lab. These shirts must be buttoned and tucked into pants.
Rule#15. No open toed shoes of any type are allowed either in classroom or on shop floor,students should wear work boots or work shoes.
Rule#16. Hair over shoulder length needs to be secured safely with a hat, cap or hairnet.
Rule#17. No necklaces, bracelets, dangling earrings, rings or watches are to be worn in shop.
Rule#18. No horseplay of any type will be tolerated.
Rule#19. Any vandalism or theft will not be tolerated.
Rule#20. Any student under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Failure to comply with rules #1-#10 will be entered  as zero on the grading rubric for each offence this may result in the student failing the class.
Failure to comply with rules#11-#17
First offense. The student will receive a written reprimand from instructor and be removed from that class, recieving no points for that day. Any quizzes or test that occur during that class cannot be made up and will counted as zero points.
Second offense. The student will be suspended from the class for the remainder of the semester and receive a FAILING grade for that class.
Failure to comply with rules #18 thru #20 will result in campus police being called to deal with student the student offender will be immediately suspended from the class for the remainder of the semester and receiving a FAILING grade for that class. Depending on severity of offence the student my be suspended from the college.

Grading Criteria

Course Evaluations:

Students will be graded using the below criteria. 
Daily Rubric; Sixteen Daily Rubrics 10% of Final Grade.
Weekly Shop Test: Three Weekly Shop Test 20% of Final Grade.
2 Projects Minimum : 50% of Final Grade
One Final Exam 20% of final grade.
 
Final (Overall) Grade Policy:
The final overall grade will use the below percentages.
 
100% to 90% = A
89% to  80%  = B
79% to  70%  = C
69% to 60%   = D     
59% to 0%      = F
Attendance Policy: Being here is a requirement for learning, if you miss a class it is your responsibility to get class notes from your classmates. Labs will continue on at regular pace, and there will be no special lab for mke up work. Every student has one 

Classroom and Shop Work.

Course Evaluations:

Final (Overall) Grade Policy:

The final overall grade will use the below percentages.

 

100% to 90% = A

89% to  80%  = B

79% to  70%  = C

69% to 60%   = D     

59% to 0%      = F

 

Projects: All projects will first inspected by the student who machined the project to see if it meets print specifications. If the part meets all print specifications the student will sign the print and submit the part to either Mr. Gibson or Mr. Gustin for final inspection and receive 100 points for the project. If during the machining process or student part inspection it is found that the part does not meet print specifications the student can remake the part and still receive a grade of 100 points for the project if it meets print specifications. If the student fails to correctly inspect the part and turns it in to Mr. Gibson or Mr. Gustin for final inspection and either of them find it does not meet print specifications the student will be required to remake the part and repeat the inspection process with a grade reduction of 15 points for each remake.

First Attempt : 100 points

Second Attempt: 85 points

Third Attempt: 70 points

Fourth Attempt: 55 points

After fourth unsuccessful attempt the student will receive a failing grade for the course section and can not move ahead with course work.

Final Test. A comprehensive will be administered. Failure to take final will result in a failing grade.

Weekly Shop Test over machine shop theory and math.

Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be administered. Failure to take the final exam will result in the student receiving a failing grade for the class.
 

Attendance

Attendance Policy: Being here is a requirement for learning, if you miss a class it is your responsibility to get class notes from your classmates. Labs will continue on at regular pace, and there will be no special lab for make up work. If you miss class one time I will exempt that day. More than one day absent will result in a zero being entered in the daily rubric. Tardiness since we are co-located at the AM-TECH Facility I will have the door 13 open until 6:00 pm, at 6:00 I will lock the door and it will remain shut until I come back to shop area. Any tardy will be recorded in the daily rubric.

E-mail rules.

1).The student will use only the e-mail address issued to that student by  Amarillo College when contacting instructor or when participating in a class assigned discussion .

2). When a assignment requires an e-mail it must be your Amarillo College e-mail address any other e-mail address will be discarded without being read or graded.

3). When communicating via e-mail you will correspond in a professional manner. Any e-mail containing language of a rude, obscene, sexually harassing, or threatening manner will immediately be reported to the Dean of Students and campus police.

4). No e-mails will be answered or graded if they are in the form of texting. Use proper spelling and punctuation in all your communication.  As the instructor I will not decipher texting I will discard it.
