Office Hours

I maintain an "open-door" policy.  If my office door is open, you are welcome in, without an appointment.  This is an idea of when my "door is open":  Normal hours will be Monday, 0900-1600, Tuesday and Thursday mornings 0900-1100, Wednesday from 1000-1600 (I have Paramedic Students in lab from 0800-1700, so I'm in and out of the office.  Text me to be sure that I will be in the office for you.) and Friday mornings, by appointment.

Throughout the week, I have meetings, appointments off campus, etc.  To avoid making a trip to the Academy for nothing, please feel free to text me to make sure I'm in the office before coming in to see me.  I value your time and gasoline that it takes to get to the Academy and it will never be an inconvenience for you to text me.

Attendance

Hybrid Format:  This hybrid course requires intense time management, as students do not participate in traditional lectures.  Rather, students prepare weekly assignments outside of the traditional classroom setting and will only be scheduled on campus for weekly labs.  A question and answer session regarding each weekly assignment may be conducted at the beginning of lab; however, time does not permit the instructor to provide a complete lecture.  Accordingly, the instructor may review crucial/more difficult concepts at the beginning of lab, but lab time will be the major focus.

Weekly Assignments will be released via "Weekly Instructions," normally on Sunday of each week.  Students are responsible for reviewing each weekly instruction page and completing assignments as set forth in the instructions.

Regular attendance is necessary for successful completion of this course. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.

Attendance will be taken and recorded at the beginning of each lab and will be tracked via the AC "Watermark" system. Watermark allows the instructor, program director, Dean, tutors and AC administration to view attendance, grades and other relevant class/student records at any time.  Attendance will be entered in Watermark at the beginning of each lab and and EMSP Program attendance policies will be enforced pursuant to the EMSP Advanced Handbook.

Failure to meet these requirements may lead to a failing grade in the course.  For purposes of this class, regular lecture attendance is necessary for successful completion of the course. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. After 2 absences from lecture, a two-point deduction for each additional absence will be taken from the student’s final average.  When a student reaches 3 absences, or tardies, the Program Director will be notified by the instructor.

LABORATORY:

Attendance will be taken and recorded at the beginning of each lab.  Advanced Students must meet attendance requirements, as set forth in the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook.  Failure to meet these requirements may lead to a failing grade in the course. Regular lab attendance is mandatory for successful completion of this course. When a student reaches 3 absences, or tardies, the Program Director will be notified by the instructor.   Each failed skill deducts 5 points. No skill can be failed more than twice for successful completion of this course.
