First Bank Southwest Fitness Center
The First Bank Southwest Center is a comprehensive fitness and recreational facility designed to provide individuals at Amarillo College and the Amarillo Community with opportunities to participate in quality programs. The Fitness Center offers membership options for both the AC Family and Community, which includes basketball, volleyball, tennis, pickleball courts, court rentals, weight machines, free weights, cardio and functional fitness areas, group fitness classes, and locker rooms with clean bathrooms and showers.
The center is also an intercollegiate volleyball venue that hosts the Lady Badger Volleyball Team, which plays in the fall. The fitness staff, consisting of professional full-time AC staff and current AC student workers, ensures a clean environment and organized fitness areas. Tours of the building are provided to ensure a welcoming and cared-for experience for those considering joining the First Bank Southwest Center Family.
Membership options include AC Employees (Benefits Eligible and Part-Time), AC Students, and Community Members. Spouses and dependents can be added for an extra fee. Weekend passes are also available. Age limits apply, with 16 and over using the facility alone. Fitness areas are not open to children 12 years old and under, and 13-15 years of age must be supervised by an adult. Court areas require supervision on courts 11 years of age and under, while 12-15 years of age can use the courts while an adult is within the facility.
The center also offers a range of fitness classes throughout the week on a month-to-month basis. Active membership is required to sign up for classes online or in person at the front desk. Pickleball classes are available for all ages and levels, with priority times listed for Monday through Friday (6 a.m.–3 p.m.), and basketball (3 p.m.–close), Saturday and Sunday (Open play).
In April 2024, the Amarillo College Wellness Committee is holding a month-long event called "Steppin' for Students," where participants can donate $15 cash or check to support the ARC within Amarillo College.
