THE BADGER BUZZ

Amarillo College Badger Buzz

National Whole Grain Month

Personally, I absolutely LOVE making bread. White bread, wheat bread, sourdough, you name it. Now, if you're anything like my mother, who is very health conscious, you may be saying "NO BREAD, CARBS ARE THE ENEMY!" Well, carbs are a part of life and they are definitely delicious (still love you mom).

Whole grain bread is the way to go if, like my mother, you want to be mindful of your health while consuming bread. It has a toasty, nutty flavor that white bread simply can not match, as well as rich nutritional value that keeps you feeling full for much longer. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as fond of a PB&J on white bread as anyone else. However, whole wheat and whole grain breads are delicious on a grilled cheese sandwich, ham and swiss, or even when toasted and piled high with romaine, pickled onions, tomatoes, and a creamy lite-ranch dressing (maybe even a spread of hummus if you're feeling fancy).

If you are interested in purchasing some whole grain bread,  Sporked.com ranked all the best bread and found that Nature's Harvest Stone Ground 100% Whole Wheat Bread was their absolute favorite. However, if you'd like to try your hand at making some homemade bread, you can check out this recipe from The Minimalist Baker.
